A chilling detail I left out of last night's post

Stephen Miller will bring in "Americans with law enforcement or other relevant backgrounds” to join federal law enforcement and the National Guard in the "crime emergency." What could go wrong?

Last night, in a piece headlined “The danger that lies ahead,” I wrote about how Donald Trump signed an order yesterday to create a special "quick reaction force" in the National Guard for "quelling public disturbances" in every state in the U.S., on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

You can read that piece and see that this order, which should have Democrats treating it as a five-alarm fire, also includes expanding the National Guard in Washington, DC with a ' “specialized” and “dedicated” unit, as Trump is clearly not planning to pull out troops after the 30 days he’s allowed to keep them there by law.

And one aspect of that which I forgot to include is Trump’s intent, per the order, to “establish an online portal for Americans with law enforcement or other relevant backgrounds and experience to apply to join Federal law enforcement entities to support the policy goals.”

So, anyone off the street can apply to work with federal law enforcement—the masked thugs in ICE, the FBI, DEA and other agencies rounding up immigrants—and be part of this mass military occupation if they have a “relevant background.”

And The New York Times reports that none other than Trump’s resident nazi, White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller, will create and oversee the online portal where people apply. Yes, the man who is leading Trump’s mass deportation effort and who rants and rails against immigrants, protesters, liberals and many other Americans will hire from among zealous MAGA devotees who want to join the effort.

There’s been much speculation that the masked thugs with federal agencies we’re seeing in the streets are Proud Boys or Oath Keepers or members of other white supremacist groups—they refuse to show ID or identify themselves, so we don’t know who they are—but we’ve seen no solid proof of that. I’ve assumed they are the current employees of the agencies, and certainly we know that many in ICE have for a long time been hardcore MAGA.

But now that anyone can apply, and Miller can decide if they have a “relevant background,” you can only imagine the kinds of people who will be brought in.
