I plan on sticking with you and supporting your Substack. We need the communities we've put together to STAY together! Because, as Abraham Lincoln said, "A house divided against itself cannot stand."
I have been going out there and becoming a paid subscriber on many of my Substacks, and will continue to do so for as long as I can. If we stay together, we will be able to weather the storm that's coming. And these connections will help us to keep lines of communication open so we can coordinate.
So, check out the Substacks of the people/journalists you follow on Substack and find like minded people to follow. And if you have any that you DO follow, restack their posts and Notes, and share with your friends both on Substack and IRL. And I'll see you in the resistance!
Thanks Rick and Mike. I heard a podcast this week with Anne Applebaum and someone else. They were discussing autocracy. There was a mention of how countries can turn the tide but ONLY by building coalitions across many diverse communities. So farm workers with women’s rights activists, military veterans with environmentalists, LGBTQ activists with an unlikely grouping, etc. Linking up to form true coalitions, and they were saying the key to turning the autocratic tide always has been these BROAD coalitions linking up and working for a key cause, usually anti-corruption. I thought that was a very interesting take on how we move forward. Anyway more to say tomorrow. Everyone keep in mind he’ll probably die in office and we will get Vance and perhaps the one saving grace on that is I do not believe Vance would stop elections from happening.
I'm a huge supporter of coalition building! We do need each other. It doesn't mean that we'll all be best buds when the work is done, but we CAN unite around mutual goals!
Kamala certainly tried to build a broad coalition and we were lead to believe that Democrats had a “superior” ground game. A large turnout would ensure our broad coalition’s victory. What happened?
THANK YOU and Dr. Seth Norrhelm, for the explanation that explains my rage 🤬😡at Trump’s even being allowed to run for President, much less being elected by a majority (despite the bomb threats in swing states). There was NO ACCOUNTABILITY!!!!
No one was arrested for January 6 except low level players!!!
Millions watched 1/6/21 as it happened. I knew most people were horrified and really angry about it where they were Republican or Democrat. They didn’t believe Trump’s BS that the “election was stolen” because the ballots weren’t even counted.!
But then NOTHING?????
For 2 years Nothing???
Everyone else were allowed to go on as usual - Gaslighting the American people.
These same Insurrectionists who tried to steal our election - Trump, the MAGA Republicans, Fox, Murdock Rupert Media, NewsMax, Mitch McConnell, Kevin McCarthy, the corrupt Supreme Court, the podcasters and the billionaires funding the attempted coup - were allowed to go on RUNNING the country and eating like a brain worm at the psych of the American people.
No one put any brakes on them - any warning signs - THIS IS TOXIC / STAY AWAY
Fox and right wing media started gaslighting the American people by saying “nothing happened on 1/6/21.
They even came up alternative versions of what took place.
Those in charge of the government contracts could have BANNED Fox News from being broadcast into any Federal facilities!!! But they didn’t!
And Fox continued to feed false narratives about the 2020 election with only (one) successful (civil) lawsuit.
The American people were denied justice en masse, gaslighted and taught professionally (by trained propagandists) to believe a different story and oppose anyone who disagreed with that “alternative”(but factual) story.
Trump committed the crime but he had no intention of doing the time. Additionally, Trump had the money and connections to pull it off - if he didn’t get nailed for the insurrection right away.
Unfortunately for the American people, we were in the worst pandemic in a century. President Biden was more concerned about saving the population and getting the United States back up and running (which Biden did an amazing job of) than pursuing a Trump conviction with a DOJ stuck in neutral..
The Supreme Court justices appointed by Trump lied directly to the Senate about precedent so they could get on the Supreme Court and the reverse Roe v Wade the first chance they had.
We have lost trust in our government, our justice system and if one is a female - the right to control over her body and her future.
It’s enough to handle personal relationships through this anger.
However, when I here talk of resistance???
WTF ??
No - they know what is coming - don’t want it YOU do something about it.
Stop blaming the people you didn’t watch out for because you played by the rules. Fuck the rules! Obviously they don’t matter!!!
“Justice” is for the rich and the court is bought and paid for!!
Don’t like the results - there’s an option if you have the guts to do it.
This is an overthrow of the government. Trump will not go to prison. The oligarchs (Proj 2025) want permanent GOP rule. Thank God I have the Signorile Report! Musk will buy all of the media and we will hear and read nothing but propaganda. Good-bye Washington Post. I still read the NY Times online from here in Fascist Florida. How long before that, too, is bought by Musk?
"And I think what we were talking about a few minutes ago with accountability, you know, that needs to be the fixed —- you need to have the insurrectionists face consequences. You know, banishment from Congress. You need to have Trump face consequences for his role in the insurrection. So without some kind of sweeping accountability to remove what I've called the cancer that is in our political system, there's not going to be any meaningful healthy change."
DB, it WAS one thing very much was looking forward to for “D world version” of Project 2025, watching him in and out of courts for the rest of his life. Perhaps behind bars, minimally house arrest and NO golf. But as has been for all his life, squeaking by somehow managing to step between raindrops staying dry. This is different now, I feel it inside, in order to protect mental and physical health I’ll tune a lot of chatter out about him and try my darnedest to not hear that guttural raspy nasty old man voice in my ears. Diversion, distraction, more hobbies, biking. Mike still gets my vote to pop in and out on the show. But if anxieties start to rise I’m hobby-ing instead. Not much I can change just make sure to always vote. And as some here do, during campaign time one can write cards and mail them, I can do that, or phone bank. Let the rest go, be zen or something, more at peace inside.
I was shell-shocked Tuesday night and Wednesday, but I can't say at this point I have anything left for grieving. I skipped that stage. I am way past that. I am beyond pissed off and I have no intention of keeping my mouth shut. No intentions of complying. I am ready to fight like I have never been ready to fight before
I have, since 2016, refused to do business with any GOP/MAGA businesses. That includes any local businesses I know to be supporters. People need to follow suit. I won't travel to red states or support any red state business. I have had this in place as well since 2016. I have long shed any of the cult or supporters from my life. It is war for me. These low info idiots are about to get what they deserve and I can't say I won't enjoy it, even though it hurts us all. A big FU to anyone who supported this.
Long time fan and I will continue to be for the honesty and dedication to being accurate and honest, but it appears to me the misreading of America by the Democrats is front and center here. Bernie's finger pointing illustrates how the idea of a pent-up anger at the right could be unleased with just the right words is false and it's the same narrative that drives people to believe the right 3rd party candidate could tap that frustration too. It also seems the effect of the press can be dispensed with when another point is being made like it can be turned on and off at will or be isolated from the discussion. I don't know if you discussed this but it appears solidarity among women doesn't necessarily work across all demographics on the abortion issue. Trump was smart when he said leave it up to states because women with means won't be as hindered having to travel to another state and believe that it will remain the status quo with no nationwide ban. Some on right believe no legislation can be passed that changes what SCOTUS has decided. Dividing along class lines works as we can see with African Americans and Latino men. We are looking for solidarity I am not sure exists. I see liberal rich people are going to cut and run out of the country as another sign putting themselves first. I know what I am saying may not relieve anybody's pain, but this is my response to what we have just experienced. Like AOC said no sugar coating. What's up with Jon Stewart? Has he been claimed by elitism?
Thanks, I'm not sure I get your full point. But I disagree with Bernie: Biden has been the most pro-worker president since FDR. He walked the picket line. He had unions behind him and helped foster new ones. This is about con man who needed new marks, because he lost ground among white working class but also many literally died out. He needed to replace them and focused in on young men who were uninformed and peeled off some latino men. And yes, he conned others with his abortion claim, etc. But the fact that many of these same voters voted for the Democrat in the Senate race in their state -- in North Carolina Dems won everything, from gov to lt. gov to attorney general, and killed the GOP supermajority--tells me it wasn't really about economy or Democratic message. It was a con man making himself more appealing, which is what he does.
I don't know how anyone can vote for a felon who can't speak in complete sentences and consistently lies. Haitians eating pets? Performing fellatio on a microphone? He needs to be in a straight jacket -- not government. Now he has all branches of government. I don't know if I can ever recover from this horror story.
One of my points is that solidarity runs smack into class divisions among women and minority men that have shown that universal solidarity among women and minorities is a myth the left keeps insisting is real and are shocked when to those same folks aren't loyal to Democrats either. People who have "made it" lose any regard for those still struggling across the spectrum. With abortion available to women with money to travel they didn't feel the urgency of protecting poor women and comfortable Hispanic Americans show very little regard for immigrants or they wouldn't have voted for Trump. Successful African American men have the same "I did this myself" attitude and are pretty well represented among Trump supporters again showing little regard for their poorer brothers and sisters. I guess my point is depending on the belief that minorities and women are a solid block for Democrats can't be depended upon. I guess I feel a little mislead because not many liberals saw this result coming of Hispanic and African American men and white women all voting Trump. In short class and privilege beats solidarity across the spectrum. I won't lie and say I have a solution just making observations other liberals might miss.
Dude. So many rich white Americans have already fled to Europe that European countries are making special tax laws to keep us out. If you want to run now, you have waited a year too long. Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. those retired dentist and brain surgeons with mommy and daddy’s money are going to have to stay here with us!
Another way to view the health consequences of living in a “malicious governmental system” is to think of your government as the thing that delivers a healthy functioning neighborhood, as the end product of good functioning government. Everyone in the neighborhood has equal access to the resources required to meet Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. You should expect this. The US Constitution says it is the entire reason the nation was formed. We ought to realize, by failing to stick to this primary objective: The Common Welfare; we never really allowed democracy to ever begin here. The battle is in your neighborhood. The only way forward my friends, is to tell your stories, demand local accountability, act in your neighborhood. Our recovery from trauma, is in our acceptance of our personal and collective responsibility to stand in solidarity and understanding with one another. Silence = Death
Reflecting on 2016, I now realize those were the 1st blows of the emotionally violent attack on my beliefs in America and its' leaders having a higher standard of decency, behavior, couth and perhaps intelligence. I definitely have the affects of PTSD caused by the lack of Justice for, specifically, DonOld tRump. Like President Jimmy Carter said that he believed one day we would find out that he actually did not win then!? The way that Russia influence case was stimied...and yada yada...I'm too tired, you'all know.
Anyway, I was an elementary school teacher working my 25th year, 18th in PE, when CoVid hit. tRump announced a national emergency 3-17-20 as I recall and I moved in with my older Mom the next day. Watching the lack of expertise with which the country was being abandoned while being lied to and hundreds of thousands of American Moms, Dads, Sisters, Brothers, Aunts,Uncles, Grandparents die without the human touch of those they love was traumatic. Being on safety lockdowns while George Floyd was murdered on video, Police crack downs on protestors, white Rittenhouse being held up by GOP after he murders two.
Hell, I'm still EXTREMELY traumatized by school shootings due to being in charge of our School Safety Committee for over four hundred 5-10 year olds. The last drill I was working on was the active shooter drill where everyone runs out of the building to hide and then meet up!?
I am just rambling now. I'm so tired but very thankful to have read this tonight.
i have aged 16 years in 8. we didn't even get a break when trump was out of office. His dark shadow was always looming in the alley
Like the stink of a dirty diaper in the sun!

With the Trumpers in power, the DOJ and the courts will be completely corrupted, so your suggestions at the end of the post will never happen.
That seems to be the reality, hopeless as it sounds.
"And I think what we were talking about a few minutes ago with accountability, you know, that needs to be the fixed —- you need to have the insurrectionists face consequences. Yup.
Trump will be pardoned of all felonies. Everything slides off of that slithering, orange felon.
