More and more people are saying, in public, that Trump is "mad". So here we are with a 'mad king' with access to the nuclear codes. And there's 3 years more of living with a President with dementia unless Congress takes action and invokes Article 25, or does something else to unseat Trump. I think all of us need to take seriously the idea of demanding, every day and in every way, that Congress step up and stop all the madness. The circus people around him certainly will want a status quo, but at this point the status quo isn't only bad for us, it's bad for the planet, for global politics.

We are subjected to a lunatic as our leader and a good-for-nothing Congress and SCOTUS. I know my elected officials here in Fascist Florida are all Trumpers and big money-grabbers like the criminal they idolize. I feel so helpless. There was an ICE protest here in Sun City yesterday. We NEVER can get the media to cover us so I feel we are invisible.

Donnab, I think a lot of protests aren't covered, partly because reportage across the country is just so think now. Big Seattle protests are covered, but the suburbs are all pretty much active with Indivisibles now, and we don't get covered. No matter - the politicians KNOW we're out there! I don't watch MSnow all day, so I can't speak for all the hosts, but Rachel is the only show host who's covering protests consistently. Chris Hayes has gotten into it a little bit.

But we should keep in mind that not even progressive TV is showing Everything we need to know, courtesy of the Big owners like Comcast. So nobody is discussing how private equity vulture capitalism is tearing our economy down.

And for Pete's sake, Schumer did a little victory tour with a presser about some great Dem candidates for Senate in 2026 and he named Janet Mills, who is 79 (Maine).

That made me mad enough to actually call the DNC and practically scream "Are you serious?" into the voicemail prompt. Enough with sending 80 year olds to ANY position in Congress!

No more old timers!!!!!!

Insane! We need new blood and young Dems to run. Geriatrics can mentor the young but not run for office!

I think it's those geriatric politicians who are buying 5, 10, 15 homes which is why they stay on for so long.

donnab's avatar

Absolutely! They have 5,10,15 homes (estates) and the rest of are lucky if we have a small place to live. Many can't even afford rent here. What a disgrace! This is the result of decades of massive tax cuts for the top 1% in the U.S.

Putin got exactly what he wanted. Even assuming we get a sane government back in control, why would the international community ever believe that another moron like trump can’t come back? The damage is done.

Great underlining of Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney’s insight and comments. Canada is still seeing clearly. O Canada!

What I heard today from that orange man in Davos was ego, hubris, grandiosity and falsehoods, one after another. He’s drunk on personal power as a result of Venezuela. He does not speak for real Americans. We are being forced into an American Brexit from NATO without even asking the American people if they want that. At least the Brits had a referendum, even though it was put out there in a way to get people to say yes.

Grandiosity is known as one of the symptoms of the disease of alcoholism. This orange one does not drink so he is in fact what’s called a dry drunk. He’s a reactionary, extremist dry drunk. So that makes two addiction sufferers at least in the government.

More than ever we have got to stay centered and know who and what we really are as individuals, families, communities and our traditional nation while the reactionary right pulls the world down around all of us. Stay together and fight back.

No we have lost the respect trust and ability to protect law and international cooperation That ship has sailed American will become a second rate country ruled by oligarchs This happened because we did not fight back against Fox News the take over of our government by corrupt corporations and a weak ignorant population mesmerized by social media football and reality TV

Hard to believe he didn't back down, but then he is a one-trick pony. They are already implementing a new system to get into Europe. It will certainly become harder for Americans. This, which is emboldening Putin to take more of Ukraine while Europe is fighting this battle with tRump. S&M planning once again. What a sad country we've become in a fairly short period of time. Thanks Repugnicans and non-voters!

Good one, Donnie Pantload! By your bullying, monumental ego, and willfully STUPID incompetence, you've managed to alienate our closest allies!

I don't know if this insanity is just him, or if The Heritage Foundation through its "man on the inside" Stephen Miller put this bug in his rotting brain, but whichever it is we need to ERADICATE any sign of agreement or even implicit condoning of it and start working on just how we're going to apologize to our former allies for voting for this corrupt, felonious, insurrectionist, rapist traitor TWICE.

Speaking as a Canadian, I appreciate this thoughtful analysis. On the question of rebuilding trust, however, I must echo our Prime Minister in underscoring for the United States that this is a rupture, not a transition, and that the old older is not returning.

While I fervently hope, for America's sake, that the Democrats win in 2026 and 2028, the United States will remain the nation that enabled Trumpism, even after Trump is gone. In light of this, it will take much more than one future Democratic presidency to attempt to build new, healthier relationships with other nations. It may in fact take decades of sustained, uninterrupted effort by the United States to determine whether rebuilding trust is possible.

As an international observer, I am not convinced that even the Democrats fully understand the extent to which the United States has fundamentally betrayed its allies. The damage done is far worse than you may imagine.

It's hard to keep track of all the mayhem for sure. At the same time I'm beginning to feel more hopeful than I have in a while. I've always said I worry more about Project 2025 and the billionaire/military/industrial/white supremacist complex, but now I do see how much power Trump wields because, puppet or not, he pulls the strings. So when the public, the (lame-ass) media, the courts, and a few politicians start to balk, it's actually a small, but good, thing. I'm so proud of Minnesota and Chicago and all the people that are standing up and fighting back. Rachel Maddow has been showcasing places large and small all over the country where protests have been continuous. Very inspiring. And Greenland? Oh man those people are tough mudders. Here's a great video to inspire us in supporting them. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hS0wFiWpU4U&list=RDd1ln5Pqbh5c&index=2
