A caller to my SiriusXM program claimed not to be a Trump supporter but saw no reason to vote for Democrats, asking why he should when “they’re all the same.”
We’ve heard this one many times, usually from people who are MAGA but don’t want to say it. And that came out when he called the Democrats and the DSA “communists.” I had to school him on all that and more.
What infuriated me was when we discussed the Iran war. The caller claimed “the fucking Jews” started the war, not Donald Trump.
This is antisemitic, and I called him on it. There’s obviously a difference between all Jews and the Israeli government. He responded with the classic “I have relatives who are Jews.”
And, of course, his premise that Israel started the war—even setting aside his conflation of all Jews with the Israeli government—is bullshit. Netanyahu pressured Trump to bomb Iran. But Trump, unlike any other president before him, took the bait. He was stupid enough to be conned, and he’s fully responsible for the war.
By the end, the antisemite had to admit he agreed with me on that point.
