There was lots of melodrama over Tuesday primaries in New York. But Democratic leaders shouldn’t let media figures--and the GOP--distort the meaning of those elections.
These wins should be a HUGE wake-up call for corporate dems: progressives are just as disgusted and fed up with the democratic establishment as they are with maga. And I agree Michelangelo, all the bed wetters and pearl clutchers should have spun this as a win for the entire democratic party instead of feeding into the nonsense coming from the right (which is absolutely laughable by the way. As if they have a leg to stand on! 😂).
Mr. Jeffries and Mr. Carville should heed the voters, not inaccurately attach names to winners they don’t like. The Democratic Party is going nowhere as usual with the same ol, same ol ineffective candidates, who will not get my support, so save your postage. We want and need young men and women with young ideas and a fighting spirit.
So well said, Michelangelo. All of this GOP/media spin does make me nervous though, only because, as it's been shown before, nobody can seize defeat from the jaws of victory like Democrats. I hope the party can get its collective shit together and focus on messaging issues-health care, cost of living, etc. and be really clear about how they want to approach those issues. Health care, decent wages and cost of living, housing, and care for the environment are not "democratic socialist" ideas. They are simply the ongoing platform of all Democrats and since the GOP has no platform except hate, fear, and profit for billionaires, it seems doable for Democrats to remind all people of what matters.
I don't think anyone has done this better than Bernie, who can reach out across party lines when needed to talk to everyone from farmers to factory workers to those in science and education. He just keeps providing real answers ("This is how we'd do it"). I wish he'd run again but I know that's not going to happen.
Been over Carville for years. He never read the memo-his opinions are irrelevant. Dem establishment leaders should embrace these Dem wins and finally understand that NYorkers voted for these candidates because they want real change, not,
“we can work across the aisle with the opposition.”
The Democrat leaders need to promote “decent Morals & Values” as a counter to what will be an onslaught of fear mongering buzz words from the MAGAt cultists.
The voters in NY decided… pure democracy …. what the Democrats need to be doing … is unifying … and preparing for the GOP’s midterm election “narrative” changing from “transgender” to the old fear mongering word “communism”.
What the voters want matters, not the DC pundits like James Carville. I see the excitement in New York and I wanted that here in Maryland. I'm disappointed in the results of Congressional District 5, where I reside. I was glad to see Steny Hoyer finally retire, but Boafo, who won the primary, is AIPAC and crypto-funded. Because 24 candidates ran, it split the vote, allowing Boafo to win with only 32% of the vote, and there are no run-offs here. Had more candidates bowed out early, then maybe Harry Dunn or Quincy Bareebe would have won. Boafo ran dirty ads against those two, citing domestic violence with Dunn and shady business practices with Bareebe. The race in District 6 was also dirty with the top two candidates spending millions of their own money, and it worked out for the incumbent. It all makes me feel less excited about voting in November, but I will vote.
As a person in my mid-60s, I welcome this turn of events. I want true progressive candidates to consider. I’m tired of Democrats who can’t get things done, make mealy-mouthed speeches, and who have the attitude of “just wait until next year.” I will always wait until next year for the Detroit Lions but not for real political leadership.
No more Corporate Democrats that are nothing more than Republican-lite.
