Among the most shocking, harrowing details from last night’s explosive January 6th select committee hearing was the fact that Vice President Mike Pence’s security detail was heard on radio transmissions stating “they feared for their lives” They were calling family members to “say goodbye.” I’m now convinced that the missing Secret Service text messages — allegedly accidentally “destroyed” — have something to do with both the fears Pence would be killed and the attempt to get Pence out of there so he couldn’t certify the election.

That testimony came from a White House security official who testified anonymously because of threats of physical harm, which is extraordinary in and of itself. That really said it all. Trump was for sure trying to get Mike Pence killed. This became clear last night, in addition to Trump’s intentions to allow the insurrection to go on, refusing to do anything, knowing an armed mob was storming the building. It was his plan for weeks in case Pence wouldn’t comply with his wishes. He wanted to stop the certification even if people were going to get hurt. He would do anything to stay in power.
