During the final January 6th committee hearing before the mid-term elections — a hearing as riveting and powerful as all of the other hearings — committee members reviewed all of the evidence they’d shown prior and forcefully made the case for why Donald Trump is the ringleader, the central force, of the insurrection.

With many others among the shock troops who participated having been charged and convicted of crimes, this can’t end without charging the man at the top. That was clearly the committee’s plea to the Department of Justice and the American people.

And then they made a bold, appropriately aggressive move to subpoena Donald Trump to testify.
