I have several thoughts on this as a Tennessee Democrat. First off, Lee is the most spineless governor we’ve ever had who has always taken the easy road and blindly followed the Republican agenda. If he does a 180 against his party platform, anyone can be persuaded. Of course, he may have also been pushed by his wife since the Lee children attended Covenant School, and she lost her dear friend in the shooting.

I have contacted Dwayne, my former congressman before November’s gerrymandering stole him from us and placed him in a stronger blue district. He barely won the last three elections, so they fixed that and gave us a GQP a- hole. Anyway, Dwayne is a friend who will hopefully convince the Shelby County attorney to file a lawsuit to get Sexton and the Republican Party to pay for our recall election and legal fees. I have also reached out to the Nashville mayor. Wish us luck!

This asshole doesn’t care about gun reform. Just protecting his political life.

Yes, Michelangelo, the best advice you gave in your report was .."....that the protests must continue." We all need to do something, if we can't get out into the streets....we can be active with phone calls/letters/emails to demonstrate our deep concerns and indignation with those NRA sponsored Repugnants ...let's do it!

Calling your representatives DOES matter because every call, email, letter gets logged regarding the issue and the caller’s position.

Yes and no. Calling my dip 💩 in Tennessee doesn’t do much. I don’t even get a response, so I attack them on their FB pages. I also have passed on my idea of suing Sexton to pay for the special elections and attorney’s fees.

Same in FL. I write to the Repuke leaders and get a form letter back.

I used to get form letters. Now, they ignore me. Florida is as screwed up as we are in Tennessee. When my sister went to vote in 2020, they told her she hadn’t voted in the last election. She said I sure did. She voted for Clinton. Something is way off in Florida, and I’m not convinced you are as red as reported. Ie. Big time cheating in Florida!!

There are plenty of Dems here but with gerrymandering by DeSatan, our legislation has a Super red majority, and they pass every piece of crap legislation that DeSatan wants. Censoring books, going after drag queens, limiting abortion to 6 weeks when a woman doesn't even know she's pregnant, changing school curricula, firing an elected Democratic A.G. The list goes on and on. I believe we are the most crooked state in the USA now!

Democrats should challenge republicans and demand that they - put their guns where their mouths are - and allow guns at the GOP convention - especially the AR-15.

In too many elections Republican candidates run unopposed. Democrats must focus on having candidates in every race up and down all ballots across this country. Even when there is no chance of winning it’s important to get our message out of being the responsible party that actually cares about the needs of constituents.

As Dorothy said on Golden Girls: Too Wittle, Too Wate. To suddenly get religion after leaving the voters to twist in the wind via inaction on common sense gun reforms, Lee needs to be recalled period! I get that the racist gop still cling to the confederate defeat as a reason to exact revenge once ensconced in power but the filthy lucre keeps their ears clogged. Even bellweather elections (Wisconsin) can't make these cultists reconsider losing propositions...

Activism does work. But it needs to remain consistent so no one forgets. I applaud any Republican who does anything to curb gun violence. I don’t care their motive. Now that 1 in 5 Americans have lost a family member or friend to gun violence, this fact, along with activism will move the needle. I have to believe!

Time and again we know that activism succeeds; people should never be complacent when injustice is in plain sight. So proud of Justin, Justin and Gloria for continuing the fight for meaningful gun reform. And ALL who agree need to support their efforts in whatever way possible. Thanks again Michelangelo for a crystal clear assessment of the Tennessee situation.

So glad I chose to subscribe to your newsletter. You do an outstanding job at shining a lot on so many injustices being perpetrated and promoted by Far right dictatorial elected officials. This has been great news out of Tennessee. When er fight back it can make a difference. Thanks for what you do Michaelangelo

With all of the masa shootings and the GOP’s refusal to address common sense gun laws, I wondered how they would respond if they were directly impacted by loss of loved ones.

I thought, even that wouldn’t matter.

Perhaps I was wrong.

Gov. Bill Lee has given me some hope.

That is an odd statement, but you are right! I NEVER thought I’d see Lee and hope in the same sentence. We had a great candidate in Jason Martin who ran against Lee in November, but he didn’t have a chance from the get go.

Trust-and-believe that my focus is only relating to his change to gun laws. He was moved from his personal loss.

From the state that brought us the KKK, not surprised they did what they did to the reps and then blatantly excepted a white woman. Shame be on the South for its continued racism.

Good cartoon in today's Tampa Bay Times.....Jesus says " There is no greater love than to lay down your children's lives for the 2nd amendment. " (Jesus is wearing a Maga hat and holding a gun.)

I oppose all gun ownership and believe the second amendment must be repealed. A long and winding road, I am aware. “The journey of a thousand (or billion) miles begins with a single step”.

I agree. I don't think anyone needs a gun. I have yet to see a good guy with a gun stop a serial killer. It's just a way to feel tough and in solidarity with the maga nuts.

Lee was trying to stop a snowball coming Tennessee's way, thanks to the student and legislative protests; and the narrative(media) fulcrum got finally tilted our way. Business doesn't like negative attention.
