If they do decide to hear this case, I would really love to know how to go about asking them to reconsider Love vs. the state of Virginia. The thing that probably pisses me off the most about Clarence Thomas stance on same-sex marriage is that he himself is in a marriage that less than a lifetime ago was not legal in most states. The sheer hypocrisy along with the gall that it takes to want to overturn Obergefell is astonishing

Hypocrisy is not a right wing concern and they love it when we notice they are getting away with it.

Excellent point, Kate! I have thought about this very thing ever since I read Clarence’s concurrence in Dobbs. The day it was issued, mind you. Clarence wants to overturn (“reconsider”, my ASS) Obergefell (marriage equality), Lawrence (same-sex intimate conduct), and Griswold (contraception). Glaringly absent from Clarence’s wish list is Loving (interracial marriage). Such blatant hypocrisy. Such shameless narcissism. Rights for me, but not for thee. What a fucking piece of shit. And the ironies abound. We have none other than Joseph R. Biden to thank for championing Clarence’s Senate confirmation in 1991. Now, consider that Clarence was appointed to replace Thurgood Marshall! One of the most nauseating examples of repugnican cynicism of all time. And that’s a very long list. Talk about a DEI hire.

Most of my family is very liberal except for my dad’s one sister. Who literally said once “I’ve got my money, why should I give it to less fortunate!” She saw no hypocrisy in those views while attending a Catholic mass every damn day! She passed in 2009 and I do NOT miss her!!!

True, although many of them don't have anything, other than their White heterosexual cisgender privilege. It's generally worked for them, though, no matter how poor or uneducated they may be. Many of them have died painful deaths, also, like from gun violence or opioids. Doesn't matter, as long as people not like them have it worse off.

Loving is a major case...I will never forget how in 1967, Mr. Loving marrying Ms. Jeter was a Supreme Court decision.

In 2017, we went to see the musical version of "Groundhog Day" on Broadway, and the new couple replacing Bill Murray and Andie McDowell were the white Andy Karl and the black Barrett Doss, respectively. I thought about how the Supreme Court decision was now merely a casting decision, and wondered how it came about, purely from a writing point of view.

Before Loving, it was all about that fear I've written about...black man sweeps white woman off. However, white men raping their way down slave row was JUST FINE!

However, I will add this: I keep referring to slave row rapes. I do NOT want this to be an opposition to white men falling madly in love with the black girl in the next cubicle or in their fire station or college class or church or wherever and the woman reciprocates the same emotions. That's what Loving was.

Because Ginnie is white, and Thomas circulates in white upper class circles, he thinks he is white.

Thomas said that liberals made his life hell for 47 years now he is going to make their life hell for 47 years.

I guess in the demented mind of Thomas, liberals are behind Jim Crow, and redlining.

Ha ! DB. I can’t stand ANYthing about the grandest hypocrite around. Isn’t she from one of those rad fundie brands of churches probably littered with baby speak gibberish “in tongues”? And pressure to conform, obeys dress code for “godly women”, she wears only long hair and jumper type dresses ?? 🤮. Just thinking the same as you and recalling my t-shirt from last fall campaign, it has a faded, tattered US flag and says “Mind your own damn business, Tim Walz”. That says SO much.

Amen, Derrick. Hypocrisy is so offensive. Why is anyone's love and marriage the business of another person? Especially some fundie extremist with 3 marriages??????

I live in Naples, Florida now—where I grew up—with my husband of 16 years. He’s from Rowan County, Kentucky, and I spent three years in Morehead helping my in-laws. In 2008, I got my marriage license from the same county office where this disgrace of a woman works. Rowan County is overwhelmingly white, steeped in discriminatory ideals, and too many still think like it’s the 1800s. (Thankfully, my husband’s family isn’t among them.) Now, this case might reach the Supreme Court—proof our legal system has been hijacked as a MAGA weapon. Her job was to issue marriage licenses, not decide who “deserves” them. If she worked in the private sector, she’d have been fired immediately. Instead, we’re debating whether the Court will follow the law or indulge extremist moral posturing. Our government is crawling with corrupt cowards, and MAGA eventually turns on everyone—including its own. One day, she’ll be “too something” or “not enough” for the movement she serves. We need to take back the House and crush MAGA’s grip—not politely, but strategically and relentlessly—because if we don’t, we won’t just lose the next election again.

So many excellent points, Nella! I especially liked that it was her job to issue marriage licenses, not to decide who deserves them! Touché!

Thank you for taking me by the hand and walking through this bit of legal delusion from Kim Davis, Thomas and Alito. Roberts probably isn't a fan of this move, so let's see if he can get 4 other colleagues to listen to HIS reasoning.

Kim Davis is in Kentucky, Kentucky falls within the purview of the 6th Circuit. The 6th circuit falls within the shadow docket of Brett Kavanaugh, hopefully Kavanaugh will refuse to take it up.

I have zero confidence in this court. As we’ve seen with everything else, they will destroy any progress we’ve made. This is the same thing they said about abortion rights- that we were being hysterical. Look where we are now.

No way, Kim Davis. Davis hasn’t a leg to stand on, since she violated the laws of the US, the Commonwealth of Kentucky, and the Constitution, as this article points out. Regarding the conservative justices, I would not be surprised on anything they do at this point. One would think that Justice Thomas, of all people, would understand what its like to be discriminated against and to remember a time when it was not legal for he and his wife to have been married. Of course, with Thomas, its always about financial enrichment for himself. Im sure if offered enough money, he'd sell his own wife into the black market for organ harvesting.

Even if the SC rejects this case that doesn't mean the Christo fascists will stop trying to overturn marriage equality. They will find another case and keep going until the majority of Justices find one they can consider.
