Open Thread: The Republican National Convention
Massive lies and stunts. And violating the Hatch Act. They'll do anything to win.

As promised, an open thread about the GOP hate fest — but unlike with the DNC ,we won’t not doing a thread a night. Just consider this thread as one for the entire convention, and please come back to it to join the discussion. What are your thoughts of it all? How are you feeling about it? Rant away!
I’ll be discussing more on my SiriusXM show today (and throughout the week).
After night two it became clearer that Donald Trump will do anything to win, no matter how many lies and broken laws.
On day one he popped in North Carolina and railed and ranted against mail-in ballots, calling the entire election a “scam.”
Night one was a horror show of lies and fear-mongering as speakers like Kimberly Guilfoyle became a laughingstock with her maniacal speech and the gun-toting McCloskey’s of St. Louis warned Black Lives Matter protesters are coming into your “quiet neighborhood.”
Night two was horrendous, with the misuse of the White House — and Trump officials violating the Hatch Act not only for engaging in a political convention there, but for performing a naturalization ceremony — overseen by a president who’s detested immigrants. This was a grotesque stunt turning something almost scared into a reality show performance. The same was true when Trump pardoned a man in the middle of the convention at the White House.
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo gave a speech from Jerusalem, another violation that had Democrats in Congress open an investigation. And Melania Trump spoke from the Rose Garden she’s turned into a stark, cold place, in a speech in which this lying birther tried to put herself above the fray, though she was dressed for battle. The Lincoln Project did a quick ad that hit the spot:
And then there were more Trump kids speaking — Tiffany and Eric — who, like Don Jr. and Trump’s own wife, still told us nothing about Trump as a human being — because no one knows of him as one, it appears.
What were your thoughts? We’ll keep this thread up throughout the convention and please feel free to come back to it. I’ll jump in too today and over the next couple of nights and days. And we’ll be going through clips on my show.
This night is hideous and dangerous. All of these people, no masks, on top of one another outside. And Trump reading speech from teleprompter.
Kamala Harris is right now responding to the convention and we're running it live in this first hour f the show today.
