Senator Chuck Schumer speaks out on my SiriusXM show
In an interview on my SiriusXM Progress show, the Democratic Senate leader slammed Donald Trump and Mitch McConnell for stalling further aide to workers amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Senator Chuck Schumer, Senate Minority Leader and the senior U.S. senator from New York, joined me on my SiriusXM show on Friday in our third hour (5:15 ET) to discuss the three trillion dollar coronavirus response package, the Heroes Act, which Democrats are trying to get a vote on in the Senate after passing the House.
While some progressives were disappointed about some proposals that didn’t make it into the final House bill, the Heroes Act has urgent aide provisions for states and localities hard hit by coronavirus, hazard pay for essential workers and much more.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has callously attempted to dismiss any further aide — and even sent the Senate home last week for a vacation — but Schumer, in our interview, was confident there would be a vote on the package. And the White House, after initially balking, has seemed open to it.
Donald Trump ultimately needs to pass further aide, as many of his own supporters are hurting. Democrats need to stay focused on the fact that they are in the driver’s seat.
Schumer also spoke out on Trump’s ridiculous command that churches re-open across the country, threatening to override governor’s orders — something he has no power to do, even as it shows his recklessness.
