This is right, and the numbers make it clear: the panic over “social issues” was always projection.
But that instinct to blame them didn’t appear out of nowhere. It comes from Democrats who’ve spent a decade outsourcing their political conscience to the Never-Trump set, people who deserve credit for rejecting Trumpism, but whose moral universe is still calibrated to the culture wars of the Bush years.
Respecting their stand doesn’t mean adopting their instincts. The party can’t keep borrowing courage from a coalition still haunted by its own ghosts.
I was disappointed by the Dems who folded, but I’m trying to look at it from their perspective. Do I think the Republicans will actually allow a vote, or vote for the ACA credits? No I do not.
Do I think they have a better alternative to the ACA? No I do not.
The fact that their new thing is to say Dems are in the pockets of Health Insurance, Co. is bull shit.
My issue is the cuts to Medicaid. These cuts will hurt so many people who are the working poor in this country. One of the best parts of the ACA was the expansion of Medicaid. These cuts will states that accepted federal funds for Medicaid, have helped so many people.
How many more decades will the government argue about healthcare costs before they realize Medicare for All is the best way to go?
Im waiting patiently for the next date for the next no kings.
Just yesterday i had Joe Wilson - member of Congress second district South Carolina in my car. He lives behind Library of Congress. It looks like a driveway but when you enter it a few , cute little homes. He loved my Jewish stars gave me a pin of the American flag attached to the Jewish flag along with his card.
A very extremely nice older gentleman. when he was talking… I knew right away that he was a Maga Republican. I don’t talk politics ( unless the person in my car is very like-minded and then we usually have a pretty cool discussion.) . I tried to keep the conversation very vanilla. He brought up a few points.. which I totally did not agree with … I did everything I could to keep my mouth quiet, but I did have a few talking points.
Well, he gave me his card and I went to his website and he does have an email to contact him. He brought up some very “great ideas” that the president had blah blah blah. I’ll stop there because my blood was boiling and I had to keep my mouth shut. I plan on drafting a very nice thoughtful email.
I plan to start with the insurrection and will list a few things that I didn’t not agree with him.
Oh, Mike… You entered my mind right away! This has bothered me for the past couple of days, but I really do plan on writing him.
He was a gentleman with me thanked me for the safe ride. He loved my music and then he did tip me.
I’m pretty unhappy about the ACA fight but am heavily biased because the ACA saved my life. And what we have from the GOP on both the ACA and Medicaid is many lives will be lost before this can get fixed. I guess those 8 Senators are shrugging and going Oh well, this is better for us politically. Like WTF? How do you compare loss of life to that? Oh well, next year? Meanwhile people are going to DIE.
On MJS, I am a huge fan of his but find this article a little too much. Like ending Roe was not a bridge too far but marriage equality is? Rights for women continue to get lost in the fog of discrimination. Go through his article and substitute abortion for marriage equality and it’s disappointing. Of course I am glad SCOTUS did the right thing but why do they get any grace on this when they gutted Roe? Denial of rights is denial of rights. End rants.
I deplore the Democratic cave, but not sure it was Schumer’s plan. But He Must Go!! Someone challenge him as Leader please! Gallego, Klobuchar, Murphy, Warnick…..;;; I like Ed Markey a lot but it’s time for him to retire.
The recent blue wave has to be analyzed in context.
First NYC, NJ and VA are in what can be term blue country, however parts of that country, like Passiac Co, NJ are still majority red. Passiac County is also majority Hispanic, of Puerto Rican origin, which is puzzling considering the racism and disdain for Hispanics and Puerto Ricans in the Republican party. I can attribute the Hispanic lean into Trump and the Republican party, to it's religious conservatism, patriarchal, misogynist, homo and transphobic.
Hispanics vote the culture war, even as ICE is breaking doors and windows to arrest them.
The two small victories in Mississippi and Georgia, came about because the white population did not vote, and had no motivation as there was no white folk on the ballot, while the black were motivated.
A broken clock is right twice a day, and Trump saying that he wasn't on the ballot is most certainly correct.
I saw on Frontline, interviews with Soybean farmers, lamenting how they might have to go out of business, but they still admire Trump even called him a smart man.
Study after study, interview after interview, the story remains the same, rural America, which is the red states, adore Trump, he is their lord and savior. They don't blame him for their economic travails.
They are guided, propagandized, by pulpit and pressm, reinforced at the grange, VFW, AmVets, that liberals, the Marxist Commie, queer, trans liberals are the real threat to their way of life.
In truth liberalism is a threat to the hucksters that lean on podiums on Sundays, Church attendance is falling off and that means loss of power, influence and money.
I would not be celebrating a blue wave in 2026, we have a lot of work to do.
40% of America is terrified of and hates what they call liberals, (Blacks, DEI, "Feminazi's", queers, transfolk, these are all perceived as threats to patriarchal hegemony.
Promise them Augustus Caesars Pater Familia, and they cling like saran wrap, in fact this is what MAGA is all about.. Pater Familia.
Abd the thing is that they are all fired out, and will turn out to vote and turn out their wallet, and that is why they have been winning.
Those soy bean farmers that are losing their livelihood and farms because of Trump, yet still adore and vote for him, are just a sample.
Lefty nonvoters had no legitimate reason to stay home on election day and biggest shaking of my faith in the left as being rational, intelligent enough to know not voting means not winning and not wining means real people suffering including all the minorities, like the trans folks the left claims they love. The most taboo subject for the left is how the hell we let Trump pick SCOTUS in 2016 and then compounded stupid in 2024. The delusion of lefties being naturally immune from right wing lies and propaganda was proven false when right wing memes about Hillary were used by lefties to excuse the inexcusable. Giving the GOP control of SCOTUS. It is said the "why bother to vote" meme is the most effective at suppressing voter turn out and seems to work on lefty voters the most.
The left is crippled by their own propaganda. Big tent, politically correct, fair minded, when they go low we go high, reasonable.
The Republican party is a big tent as well, not everyone in it has the same agenda, but they don't fight for and compete for priority.
I watched in dismiss the No Kings day rallies on Rachel Maddow, and was dismayed at seeing people waving different flags and promoting their own cause. It was worse in LA., dudes driving around on motorcyles waving Mexican, Palestinian, Ukrainian and even Gay flags. Dumb stupid mother fuckers, absolutely no brains no sense of tactics or strategy, all emotion.
Say no to dictatorship, say not to Trump, no Kings. That's it.
Political correctness, speech. If there is one thing that has consolidated MAGAts, is monitoring speech, cancelling speakers and people..
What his has done is built up the pressure of anger and frustration.,and along comes Trump the pressure relief valve.
You have been working with, shopping with, living with people who harbor thoughts and opinions that you not only disagree with but are dangerous to a civilized social order, but didn't have a clue, because their expression was stifled with political correctness.
Now I know who they are, and I avoid them like cancer.
I will always be a supporter of your show, but I’m going to respectfully disagree with this particular column. There’s a growing body of writing from the left about girls and women who are harmed or marginalized by not being able to succeed in sports against biological males. Or who are victimized by males being put in women’s prisons. Feminism has been disappeared and girls and women have almost nowhere to go for help. We Democrats need to be their advocates.
This is right, and the numbers make it clear: the panic over “social issues” was always projection.

The trans 'problem' for Dems (support) began long before Harris was the candidate.
What better expression of "living in a free country" than allowing people to be who they are?!
Obergefell makes me somewhat nervous for my friends.
