The Holocaust denier who called LGBTQ people "filth" could be North Carolina's governor
Lt. governor Mark Robinson is a Christian nationalist who believes women shouldn't vote. And of course he is backed by Trump--and seen as the future of the MAGA Party.
MAGA extremism has no bottom, something we saw on Super Tuesday when Mark Robinson became the GOP nominee for governor in North Carolina.
And while the greatest threat right now is to the people of North Carolina, you better believe the GOP is grooming Robinson, a Black man deeply embedded in far-right conspiracy theories who has little political experience, for higher office.
We’ve seen them do the same with other minority group members—think Herschel Walker—as part of a playbook they’re using to retain power as the demographics of the country change.
I’ve discussed Robinson a few times since he became the lt. governor of North Carolina in 2019, riding high after he gave a full-throated speech celebrating guns at a Greensboro City Council meeting in 2018, condemning leaders in Greensboro who were moving to cancel a local gun show in the wake of the Parkland shooting. He attacked the left, glorified the police, and became a star in MAGA world, speaking across the country and bankrolled by the NRA.

He’d never held office before, and a la George Santos, Robinson either wasn’t vetted or the MAGA maniacs didn’t care. But soon enough, all of the batshit crazy, dangerous stuff he said in the past came belching up from the archives of his social media accounts. He wasn’t even slightly rattled; he's only added even more horrendous beliefs and plans to the mix since then. He’s called LGBTQ people “filth”:
"I'm saying this now, and I've been saying it, and I don't care who likes it: Those issues have no place in a school. There's no reason anybody anywhere in America should be telling any child about transgenderism, homosexuality — any of that filth," he said.
He added: "And yes, I called it filth. And if you don't like it that I called it filth, come see me and I'll explain it to you. It's time for us to stop letting these children be abused in schools, and it's not going to happen till the people of God stand up and demand different, same ones that established those schools to begin with.
And he’s quoted Hitler on Facebook, later defending it by calling for lifting the taboo on quoting Hitler during the Moms for Liberty Summit last year. Robinson has made a number of anti-Semitic comments as well, including saying that an “agnostic Jew” created Marvel's Black Panther in order to make money off of Black people—using the Yiddish slur for Black people.
In a Facebook post he actually called the Holocaust “hogwash.” He believes we need to “go back to an America where women couldn’t vote.”
And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. We are talking about someone who is completely ginned up on the darkest, most sinister conspiracy theories that MAGA has cooked up.
True to form, too much of our corporate media, trapped in their “both sides” cult, has downplayed it. The New York Times finally responded to the outcry yesterday after they had initially called him a “firebrand” in their headline/subhead, and added in the relevant facts like his being a fan of Hitler.
Donald Trump endorsed Robinson for lt. governor, calling Robinson “Martin Luther King on steroids,” which is truly vile. And Trump will, of course, be on the GOP ticket with Robinson in North Carolina this fall.
Robinson’s opponent is Democrat Josh Stein, who is the current attorney general and won the Democratic nomination for governor on Tuesday. Democratic Governor Roy Cooper, who is term-limited, has performed a heroic job of keeping the forces of hate in North Carolina mostly at bay, even as the GOP has a supermajority in the legislature.
So it’s critical that Robinson be kept out of the governor’s office—and be kept from attaining even higher office as the GOP looks to groom him as part of the next MAGA generation of politicians. To that end, this post is to sound the alarm and make sure we do what we can to help elect Josh Stein in North Carolina.
I think they're all trying to out-crazy Orange Hitler. This guy actually said that black people were better off before Emancipation! That is one sick and twisted Black man. We are witnessing more and more Fascism at work every day. The only hope is getting out the vote massively! We must believe that there will be Rs who stay home (at least 20%), rather than vote for either candidate.
this guy sounds like a wacko!! I think the people of NC are a little smarter than this to put this nutbag into Governor's seat. Maybe I am wrong, I don't know, but Trump's endorsements never seem to win.
