I think Trump believes his delusions. He's suffering from dementia, in addition to being a liar and a criminal. I'm grateful the SCOTUS stopped him from interfering with midterm mail-in ballots, but it won't stop him from trying to somehow mess up this election or the next one. The orange nutcase is the leader of the GOP. Hopefully, it will dissuade some Republicans for voting for their party until it's returned to some semblance of sanity.

Larry's avatar

Yes Donnab, it might make some republicons stay home on Election Day. And Dems need to turn out big time.

donnab's avatar

Larry, they traditionally have low turnout in FL. I hope we can motivate them this time but so many are apathetic.

Larry's avatar

Anyone who chooses to be apathetic during these midterms Donnab, is beyond repair. We need to be as vocal as possible, or we lose democracy forever.

On that note, Angie Nixon is a great role model for Florida Dems. She’s fearless.

donnab's avatar

Angie is a great candidate. However, FL has a million more registered Repuke voters than Demcratic voters. And they still suppport the grifter. I am working on the election, but I fear there are too many Faux News watchers here.

Like others, I don't think Trump can sort fact from fiction anymore. So, if something APPEALS to his biases, it must be true. He's completely fact-free and data immune. That said, the Supreme Court should NOT be like Trump. Consequently, I really think Thomas and Alito are similarly deluded.

Today, my county sent out the mail in ballots, and the drop boxes are good to go as well. So, the day we receive our ballots (probably tomorrow) is the day they will be RETURNED to the drop box, which means our municipal building/police department. The drop box is monitored 24/7, so if anyone tampers with it, the local police will be there in under 30 seconds.

And my ballot went in on Friday afternoon and was delivered to the county clerk's office by 11 PM. Mango Mussolini can go suck rocks.

Larry's avatar

Every municipality should be run the same way, Catherine. Wonder how it works in a red state/area.

Catherine Lugg's avatar

This is actually the county, which places drop boxes at municipal buildings--which also house the PD. hey, it's Jersey. We have an UGLY election history so this wisdom is hard won.

Should the Democrats win the trifecta in 2028, then one of the first orders of business in 2029 must be court reform, starting with the creation of two additional federal circuit courts of appeals and adding six justices to the SCOTUS (one for each circuit).

Then, a whole slew of federal court judges must be appointed to dilute the influence of what had been installed by two presidents who lost the popular vote (Reed O’Connor, Matthew Kacsmaryk, Aileen Cannon, and Emil Bove being merely four examples).

Finally, an ironclad code of judicial ethics must be imposed on the SCOTUS, together with staggered term limits (former justices offered positions elsewhere on the federal bench).

Then, the challenges to, and rehearings of, numerous decisions that have significantly eroded and degraded the very fabric of our society can begin, going back to Buckley v. Valeo, 424 U.S. 1 (1976) and including—but by no means limited to—First National Bank of Boston v. Bellotti, 435 U.S. 765 (1978), District of Columbia v. Heller, 554 U.S. 570 (2008), Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission, 558 U.S. 310 (2010), McDonald v. City of Chicago, 561 U.S. 742 (2010), Shelby County v. Holder, 570 U.S. 529 (2013), McCutcheon v. Federal Election Commission , 572 U.S. 185 (2014), New York State Rifle & Pistol Association, Inc. v. Bruen, 597 U.S. (2022), Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization, No. 19-1392, 597 U.S. (2022), and, of course, Trump v. United States, 603 U.S. 593 (2024).

You've thought about this haven't you? And brought all kinds of receipts to boot! Agree 100% 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

Some additional decisions that will, hopefully, also be revisited: Mueller v. Allen, 463 U.S. 388 (1983), Zobrest v. Catalina Foothills School District, 509 U.S. 1 (1993), Good News Club v. Milford Central School, 533 U.S. 98 (2001), Zelman v. Simmons-Harris, 536 U.S. 639 (2002), Van Orden v. Perry, 545 U.S. 677 (2005) and Hein v. Freedom From Religion Foundation, 551 U.S. 587 (2007), Masterpiece Cakeshop v. Colorado Civil Rights Commission, 584 U.S. (2018), Espinoza v. Montana Department of Revenue, 591 U.S. (2020), Carson v. Makin, 596 U.S. (2022), Kennedy v. Bremerton School District, 597 U.S. (2022), and 303 Creative LLC v. Elenis, 600 U.S. 570 (2023). (At least, so far...)

And no criminal presidents.

And the beat goes on...The Rs have to make a decision and it will be a tough one. Either they decide they no longer want this country to be a representative democracy or they get out of the way and let the American people make the decision. We aren't out of the woods until Cheetolini has a tag on his toe, if we survive that long.

Well said Wonne.

He’s on a big temper tantrum spree this week. Shutting down the Kennedy Center, this, the Emmy awards. And he is delusional, witness his complete fabrication about 9/11. He has created a fictional world in his head where he lives that has nothing to do with reality. His reality show wasn’t reality.

Anyway glad SCOTUS helped for this election cycle. Every single Dem candidate needs to be talking about this and keep talking about it.

Sakina's avatar

He needs to be locked up. I'll take prison or an institution for the criminally insane.

Larry's avatar

And the world is watching, incredulously, as Americans “presumably”elected and are led by this monster, Sakina. We need to get those non voters off their couches, turn on the pressure and turn out the vote.

I have to admit... I had no faith here but I was very happy to see this stopped. Alito and Thomas should be roomates in Gitmo for all the corruption and bribery they've been involved in, so I knew they would be all in. I honestly expected Kavanaugh to be all in too. Stacking SCOTUS with dems and opening an investigation into Alito and Thomas should be a huge priority when this shit show finally rolls up. I can also tell you in my county's mail-in voting here is Collier County FL has run flawlessly here in for decades. I am bringing my ballot in this time though.

Curmudgeon's avatar

Sorry to go off topic again but your remarks about over confident Dems not voting reminds me of the election of 2016 as disastrous for America because SCOTUS was enabled. I listened to Hartmann right after the election who took a call from someone who voted for Stein claiming she was positive Hillary would win thereby clearing the way for a meaningless protest vote. It still sticks with me because 2024 showed the same level of ignorance that we can get better Democrats by boycotting elections like we would a private business to get what we want. If we do that again then we truly deserve what we won't fight against

Rock Wilcox's avatar

The Supremes have stepped in, basically to protect the right to vote....but only for now. Yet, trump already has plans B, C, D, E, etc., ready to do anything to avoid losing the election for Republicans, and he is determined to never leave the White House no matter what.

Btw Mike… people … as of this morning gas ⛽️ has shot up ⬆️ as I was filling up this morning in WDC.

Sakina's avatar

My gas was $4.49 here in suburban Maryland as of last Saturday (BP station). DC tends to have higher prices than where I live.
