Tuesday thread: Might Utah vote out a Republican senator?
The race is close between Sen. Mike Lee and independent Evan McMullin, who decimated Lee in a debate last night. Democrats decided not to field a candidate and get behind McMullin to defeat Lee.
In Utah Democrats decided upon a novel strategy to defeat Trumpist election denying Republican Mike Lee — who isn’t even getting Mitt Romney’s endorsement: They decided not to nominate a candidate and get behind McMullin. He’s hoping to cobble together a coalition of Never Trump Republicans, independents and Democrats.
And so far it’s giving him a shot, as the two are neck and neck in polls.
McMullin has vowed he won’t caucus with either party. But one less deep red state senator not caucusing with Republicans is one less senator for them to be able to create a majority with — and a Democrat would never win in these states.
