The hard-right extremist, neo-Nazi supporter and “ex-gay” Milo Yiannopoulos, who championed mass deportations, has been detained by ICE and sits in detention in Louisiana. He had a removal order to the UK, where he is from, having overstayed his visa. But this is not just a case of a hater getting his just desserts; he was targeted by still-loyal MAGA after he’d joined up with Marjorie Taylor Greene in criticizing Donald Trump.
After the abduction of Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro and the installation of a still-repressive puppet government, Trump thought he’d just grab all the oil—which I believe was truly the point of the entire operation, in Venezuela and in Iran. But oil companies were still not biting, concerned about security and also seeing dilapidated infrastructure that would cost billions to rebuild. Trump has now found a new way to push them: He says he’s secured a deal giving the U.S. effective control of 55% of a new venture involving vast Venezuelan oil reserves, which could require U.S. taxpayers to spend billions to modernize the infrastructure and coax oil companies to join. I think this is called socialism, by the way, as well as outright theft do.
Six months into the war in Iran, its leaders are more hard-core and claiming they can withstand the pressure as Trump has backed away from a major military offensive for now, relying on economic sanctions to loosen the regime’s grip, something that hasn’t worked in the decades sanctions have been in place. And Iranian leaders are threatening that if the economic war continues, not a single drop of oil will be exported from the Persian Gulf—and that if the U.S. replenishes its munitions and begins a major military attack again, they will hit back with ferocity.
