The GOP midterm convention was the disaster we thought it would be for the GOP, in which Trump was omnipresent. He implored voters to “pretend” he was on the ballot, actually called for Republican voters to “cheat like hell” and now infamously promised $5,000 to every American if voters help Republicans keep power. This blatant attempt to entice voters with cash—in essence a bribe—would cost more than a trillion dollars, and even some Republicans came out against it. The promise backfired big time, and Trump melted down, lunging at a reporter who dared to ask him about his promises to send checks to Americans previously—checks that never came…
Trump was furious when his D.C. U.S. attorney, Jeanine “box o’ wine” Pirro, formerly of Fox News, dropped the charges against former Olympian David Hearn, who was arrested for supposedly vandalizing the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. She said the evidence showed it was a faulty installation. Trump raged and appeared ready to fire her. He still claimed vandals destroyed the lining with a knife. But now we have learned the contractor that installed the lining is admitting it was faulty construction, completely undercutting Trump’s claims…
And in yet another example of the GOP grappling with neo-Nazi imagery among young Republicans, embattled Republican Senator Jon Husted of Ohio just fired his young political director after he was exposed as having used Nazi iconography. What is most disturbing is that Husted praised the aide as a patriot, while accepting his explanation that the Nazi imagery was related to “historical reenactments,” even as Husted said the aide showed a complete lack of “judgment.”…
