Weekend Report: What's going on?
Trump declare war on world economy, as GOP does nothing. NSA chief fired, targeted by conspiracy theorist. "Hands Off" protests planned all across the country today.
Economists cannot think of a more reckless action undertaken by a president to send the markets and the global economy into free fall overnight. All of it is based on Donald Trump’s wacky and dangerous theories about import taxes—yes, they are a tax, on all of us—and what also appears to be a scam to pay for tax cuts for the wealthy by putting an import tax on lower income Americans. A larger question is, how can the president have the power to do this? The answer is, he doesn’t, but no one is stopping him. We are in a very perilous time.
On top of all that, this week Trump decapitated the National Security Agency, based on the rantings of crazed conspiracy theorist Laura Loomer, who went to the White House with a list of people to fire. National Security Adviser Mike Waltz, himself in a precarious situation with Trump, apparently was present but couldn’t or wouldn’t stop it. Cyberdefenses and the possibility of a terrorist attack are very real at a time of increased danger.
On the positive side, this week we also saw Democrats at the ballot box hit back hard and send a message to the GOP that has it quaking. Elections earlier this week in Wisconsin and Florida confirmed people are not sitting back, making sure their voices are heard. And that’s what’s happening today all across the country as over 1000 “Hands Off” protests are planned in all 50 states.
