Trump's illegal late night "massacre" of inspectors general. The drunk and womanizer Hegseth squeaks in as defense secretary. Bishop who told Trump to have "mercy" says she won't apologize.
In the middle of the night, Donald Trump fired 12 inspectors general—the independent watchdogs of government agencies. It’s illegal for the president or anyone to fire them without giving Congress 30 days’ notice because they are in fact providing oversight of the executive branch. But Trump has immunity, and who’s going to investigate and stop him?
Former Fox host Pete Hegseth, even after facing new allegations of physical abuse against his second wife, became the defense secretary in the narrowest vote in history for that position, 51-50. JD Vance had to break the tie after Sens. Lisa Murkowski, Susan Collins, and (!) Mitch McConnell voted against him, joining all Democrats. It’s only the second time the vice president had to break a tie for a Cabinet nominee. You can guess when the first time was.
There was a great, uplifting moment this week when the pastor at Washington’s National Cathedral, Marianne Edgar Budde, spoke directly to Trump about his horrible actions during the inaugural prayer service. She’s been attacked viciously by Trump and MAGA, but she is not backing down, speaking out more about the people Trump is targeting. And in response to Trump demanding an apology she has a simple answer: no.
