Weekend Report: What's going on?
Trump caves on a slew of deportations, sidelining Stephen Miller. Protesting military veterans arrested as Trump military parade kicks off. No Kings Day is here!
This week Donald Trump made a startling admission on Truth Social and then in a press conference, clearly worried about poll numbers: That his mass deportation actions were hurting agriculture and hospitality businesses and too many “hard-working” people were being rounded up. At first, it seemed like it might just be lip service after some big donors complained, as Trump backtracked after Stephen Miller pushed back. But last night media reported a memo went out to ICE leaders to pause such deportations. This was a major cave in, a big win for the opposition, and Miller looks like he’s being sidelined.

It’s also coming at the worst time, as Trump is using the military in the streets of Los Angeles, causing much concern among military leaders past and present. Before the parade got underway, 60 military veterans were arrested protesting at the Capitol.
And the No Kings Day protests are set for today—and Trump seems to be worried about their impact and the effect on public opinion, already on the defensive about it—and we could see the largest protests ever, with millions set to turnout across the country.
