Weekend Report: What's going on?
Harris making final VP decision. Cowardly Trump now agrees to debate--on Fox. Republicans are suddenly on the run, worried about Trump's racist attacks and Vance's meltdown.
The great moments for Vice President Kamala Harris keep coming. After uniting Democrats behind her, officially clinching the Democratic presidential nomination with DNC delegates on Friday, and meeting freed American prisoners from Russia at Andrews Air Force Base, showing what an adult administration focused on diplomacy can achieve, she is now conducting final interviews for her VP running mate. The announcement will come Tuesday, followed by a battleground state tour right into the Democratic National Convention.
After being mocked for ducking from debating Harris in several interviews, Trump now claims on social media that he’s “agreed” to a debate on September 4th. But it is on Fox News, rather than the previously scheduled debate on ABC. There is no word yet on whether this was agreed to by Harris or if this is just another Trump diversion. And, predictably, much of our media reported Trump “agreed” to a debate on Fox when they should have said he’s still bailing on the ABC debate. If there’s a Fox debate shouldn’t there be an MSNBC debate? Why should Trump only face his loyal propagandists as moderators?
After years of completely falling in line with Trump on every extremist thing he does, a funny thing happened in the past two weeks: Many Republicans and MAGA pundits are running from Trump’s racist attacks on Harris’ identity at the National Association of Black Journalists. Perhaps worried about the House and Senate races and the backlash in the presidential race, they’re either staying silent or speaking out mildly against the strategy. Will it last?
