The first big test for the GOP and Donald Trump came well before Trump took office, and they failed spectacularly. After Elon Musk blew up the spending bill to keep the government open, Trump tried to save face by demanding the debt ceiling be lifted in a subsequent bill. That failed. And in the third attempt, which finally passed, some of what the GOP took out was passed separately…

Speaker Mike Johnson was totally undermined by Musk and then was betrayed by Trump, who had to have backed his original bill. The same mega-MAGA crowd in the House that voted against the spending bill is making noise about voting against Johnson…

President Biden stayed quiet throughout the spectacle, letting Trump own it and watching Republicans fight it out. And, in these final days of his presidency, he quietly surpassed Trump in the number of judges he got passed in his first term…
