Donald Trump’s invasion of Venezuela is another turning point, a fascistic first attempt at dominating and plundering other nations, expanding the American empire. The US invaded a country with no debate in Congress or discussion among the American public and decapitated its leadership. It has refused to allow elections or democracy in Venezuela, keeping the repressive Maduro regime in place, which it is turning into a puppet regime—at gunpoint—while it attempts to extract Venezuela’s natural resources.

Inside the United States, we also reached a turning point on Trump’s fascistic actions. Renee Nicole Good was shot dead while peacefully protesting ICE and, according to her wife, Rebecca Good, trying to “support our neighbors.” The message from the regime is that free speech will be punished with death against American citizens. And new video further shows that the killer, ICE agent Jonathan Ross, not only wasn’t in any danger from Good; he called her a “fucking bitch” after he shot her in the head.

The speed at which Trump is accelerating his fascist takeover, however, may also reflect its weakness and fragility—as Trump is trying to do as much as he can before he’s stopped. Trump is in debilitating health, mentally and physically. And he knows that the American people have turned on him, that Democrats are winning elections in landslides and that Republicans are now scared, defying him. Overshadowed by recent events was the fact that this week marked increased pushback on Trump by a fretting GOP, on issues from health care to war powers.
