As the Department of Homeland Security is now shut down—with Democrats refusing votes on funding unless Republicans agree to basic demands like having agents wear no masks and show identification—we’re learning how ICE is now pressuring Meta, Google, Reddit, and other sites to give it information on anti-ICE protesters, a clear violation of the Fourth Amendment.

As Donald Trump sees Democrats winning election after election and flipping red seats to blue in special elections, he’s become increasingly desperate, calling several times for “nationalizing” elections. Now, after Republicans have voted in the House for the SAVE Act—which would require not only proof of citizenship but also proof of residence in order to register to vote, in addition to identification for voting and a whole bunch of other very dangerous provisions—Trump wrote that there would be voter ID “whether approved by Congress or not.” What does that mean?

Trump’s desperation is fueled by mid-term data that is horrifying to him. And one particular data point that is unprecedented is what has happened with younger voters. The majority of those aged 18 to 29 voted for Kamala Harris in 2024, but not with the same numbers that the group has voted in the past for Democrats, as Trump cut in a bit. After the election, Trump then briefly saw positive approval from the young voters, with a +9% net approval. That has now stunningly swung a whopping 51 points to a -42 net approval in a YouGov/Economist poll. If that holds, it’s a further wipeout for the GOP.
