The corporate media has predictably been ramping up calls for President Biden to leave the race after his bad debate performance. Almost every New York Times columnist called for him to drop out, while the paper ran headlines about unnamed Democratic insiders wanting to replace him. Ditto at The Washington Post, Axios, Poltico, CNN, and lots of other places...

But it may be backfiring, at least with much of the online base of the party and many progressives. After the New York Times Editorial Board called on Biden to drop out, the response on social media was fierce. Probably the last way to get Biden to leave is to have the disgruntled New York Times tell him to do so…

We’re seeing a bizarre scenario play out in which elite columnists at media conglomerates are acting as if they’re the “rebels,” speaking against the Democratic “establishment,” which they claim is closing ranks around Biden, even as they contradictorily report that unnamed insiders are pressuring Biden to drop out...

But the attacks have now brought Biden a wave of support from many in the base of the party, including many progressives suspicious of the New York Times and the corporate media…

And how easy is it to replace Biden—logistically and politically? Not very easy at all, and it may not be possible without doing damage…
