Weekend Report: What's happening?
The week Trump and MAGA began to crack. And Democrats surged. The Tesla Takedown is today.
The week began with the massive security breach on Signal, which even jolted Republicans in the Senate and MAGA in the punditry, causing some to break. Judges were fast and furious in shutting down Trump’s brutal actions. Greenland won the first skirmish in Trump’s attempted takeover, while Canada’s new prime minister slammed Trump so hard he stopped talking about the “cherished 51st state.” Investors who thought Trump was going to give them a “new golden age" became angry about new tariffs, while a “MAGA junkie” went on TV to her admit buyer’s remorse.
In a show of GOP deep worries, Trump shockingly pulled the nomination of Rep. Elise Stefanik of New York as his ambassador to the United Nations, worried about the tiny majority Republicans have in the House. That was after Democrats have raised huge amounts of money for special elections for the House, two races in deep red Florida districts that are surprisingly close in the polls. And also came after Democrats scored a big win in Pennsylvania, flipping a state senate seat in a legislative district long held by Republicans and which Trump won by 15 points in 2024.
Elon Musk, meanwhile, is the Frankenstein monster Trump can’t control. He’s trying to buy the Wisconsin Supreme Court race, pouring millions into it and promoted an event on X in Wisconsin at which he said he’ll pay one million dollars to two people among those who showed up for a speech he’s giving (and who offered proof that they voted). Democrats threatened legal action, causing Musk to pull down the post. But state attorney general moved forward with a lawsuit. Meanwhile, with perfect timing, the Tesla Takedown movement is today having its biggest day of protests yet, with over 200 planned in the U.S. and more around the globe.
