This week, Michelangelo played a clip of Tommy Tuberville stating that California, my state, had been 'bailed out many times'. I went to the Tub's website and left this message on it:
Recently Tuberville has stated that California has been 'bailed out many times'. Could you maybe provide an example of when California was bailed out?
I ask because according to the Tax Foundation, the Pew Trust and the Rockefeller Institute, Alabama has no history whatsoever of paying more Federal Taxes than you receive in Federal Spending. In fact, your 40 year average is $1.69 in federal spending for every dollar paid. Not quite Mississippi or West Virginia, but right near the top of the most heavily subsidized states in the U.S. Why is that? And in recent years, things seem to have gotten even worse. 2015, $1.94; 2016, $2.00; 2017, $2.00; 2018, $2.15; 2019, $2.14; 2020, $2.30; 2021, $2.18 & 2022, the most recent data, $1.96. Things seem to have gotten worse in Alabama. What happened?
Meanwhile, my state, California, in 2015, got $0.96 back. 2016, it was $0.98; 2017, $0.98; 2018, $0.94; 2019, $0.97; 2020, $1.11; 2021, $0.93 & 2022, $0.83. None of these numbers look like California has been bailed out any time in the recent past. In 2019, we paid $472 billion in Federal Taxes. In 2021, we paid $587.6 billion. In 2022, California paid $696 billion. An increase of 68%, during a pandemic.
In 2019, we got back $457.8 billion in Federal Spending. What happened to the $14.2 billion we didn't get back?
In 2021, we got back $546.5 billion in Federal Spending. What happened to our $41.1 billion we didn't get back?
In 2022, we got back $578.3 billion in Federal Spending. What happened to the $118.5 billion we didn't get back?
So, when has California been bailed out? Look at the numbers for Alabama. And you think we don't have Socialism in the United States? May be why my mother left Alabama and never went back.
I'm going to JD's site in a bit and leave a similar message, as his state has a rather pathetic record as a Socialist Welfare State.
Feel free to copy this and tailor it to whatever state you want to target. Expand on it. Plenty to expand on. I'll help if you want. All the Red States, as I believe I've documented here, are Chronic Failed Socialist Welfare States. Lets start letting them have it on their webpages. It's a place to start. And refrain from calling them Senator or Representative. Just call them whatever you wish to call them. I think you all know who they are. It's a place to start. The data can't be argued with, it's right there in black and white.
It was kind of funny hearing Kimberley Guilfoyle, Gavin Newsom's ex wife, say the soldiers who landed on D-Day were 'fighting Communism'! I guess all the make up and plastic surgery has fried here brain. From the numbers for all the Red States, you could say we have a form of Communism right here in the U.S. I prefer to call it Socialism. We need another D-Day right here to save us from the Failed Ass Red States.
Sure. What are their alternative facts? We respond to the lies. If we don't, they become 'facts'. This is the way it has been with the Republicans, so we need to respond. A boat load of people going after them with data from the IRS, etc., would at least let them know we're on to them.
I've said this before, some clever democrats should propose eliminating ALL federal taxes. This won't happen of course, but we propose letting everything be handled by the states. Their taxes go WAY DOWN. The states get to keep all the money they would have sent to the Fed, but the key here is, the Federal Spending they've been used to is over. It's a bit of an absurdist play, but these states are nothing with out the money the Successful Blue Sates gve them each year. No more Federal Taxes though!
My state gets to keep the $118 billion we gave away in 2022. I'm good with that.
California ranks as the fifth largest WORLD economy for the seventh consecutive year, according to the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis. No bailouts there. Tuberville's statements are breathtakingly ignorant. Thanks for your report...
I’m well aware of my states position in World economics.
Feel free to go to the website of any Republican liar, essentially any Republican these days, and throw facts back at him or her. Let em know we know what the truth is and that we’re on to them. As I said, we need to respond to the lies.
How about we as a group we choose a liar for the week and load up their ‘message’ box with the facts. Like how shitty the economy of their state is. All Red State economies suck, so it’s low hanging fruit. The Rockefeller Institute shows that. I merely asked Tuberville to show me some data. On the other hand, I blasted him with data.
He’ll never show data bc that would involve some level of competence and a reasonable intelligence. Tuberville’s only intention is to rile up his fellow cult members.
We always need to respond. We can’t let them continue to repeat things to where they become ‘truths’. I got numbers to back all of my stuff up, and I like using the words like failed, subsidized, welfare and socialist. Let’s start using those words over and over as we talk about Red states.
Totally agree Jan. Your information about “welfare red” states versus successful blue states needs to be on MSM, as does Project 2025. It’s not MAGA’s that will process; the independents who would glean the facts and use their judgement to figure out where their tax dollars are going, and of course figure out why it’s happening. Silence about it is complacency.
Give Tubby Tommy a break. He took a few too many hits to his head during his football playing days, and actually lives in Florida while he's a Senator from Alabama. No attack is too low for the Republicans, but in Tubby's case the depths of his attacks match the depths of his brain-power. None too deep, and on life-support. When the good Lord was giving away intelligence, Tubby thought he said "flatulence" and ran away.
The sad(?) thing is today's younger voters don't pay any attention to these gobbledygook MAGA mud-slinging attacks. They know it's all a desperation move by the Republicans, and they can quickly Google (or do whatever kids do today) to see that these accusations/attacks are nothing more than horse-hockey. (Feel free to substitute whatever Sherman Potter-ism you may like better.)
I couldn't care less how Tuberville got the way he is. My guess is, considering it's Alabama, it started at birth and went downhill from there. As some sage once said, 'If brains were gasoline, he couldn't power a PISS ANTS motorcycle around a thimble'
I do hope you are right about younger voters. I'm encouraged by Kamala's start. Everybody seems to be lining up behind here. Nice to see, and the 'Joe question' has been taken away from the press. Even MSNBC!
Keep in mind also that Tuberville is subversive and a traitor. He deliberately hamstrung our armed forces by holding up officer promotions for months for the flimsiest of reasons. I' m sure the real reason was to curry favor with the Orange Rasputin and his paymasters in the Kremlin. I would say he is a sack of shit, but that is an insult to sacks of shit.
What a difference a week (or less than a week) makes.
My gut feeling is that women and younger voters are going to drive the momentum for Harris, and this support may not show up in traditional polling.
As we've already seen in various state referendums, women voters across the political spectrum place a high importance on preserving access to reproductive freedom (even if they're anti-abortion or would never have an abortion themselves - but object to having the "State" [i.e. men] making this decision for them).
Younger generation voters see Kamala Harris as a vehicle for optimism (and a pop sensation). Their world has been filled with school shootings, Covid, global warming, and global (and domestic) threats to democracy. They don't see her as perfect, and they don't really care one way or the other. They're also not going to be swayed by things she may have said or done years ago in California, and muddy MAGA attacks will do nothing to break their will.
Here's the choice: A) living in a dystopian state under an autocratic dictator; women no longer being in control of their health and reproductive decisions; all existing rights for LGBTs being eliminated (and all marriages being nullified); and everyone that isn't a white, male Christian being demoted to second-class citizenship (assuming they're lucky enough to avoid being rounded up and housed in some sort of internment camp). Or B) no guarantees other than hope and optimism for a freer, fairer, democracy.
My hope is that the educated professional suburban women in this country turn out in DROVES to vote for VP Harris, especially given all of the misogynistic comments by Trump (the sexual-abuser-in Chief) and JD Vance.
I suspect some married cis women will say that they’re for Trump, but in the ballot box they’ll Vote for Harris BECAUSE IT’S THE RIGHT THING TO DO FOR WOMEN’S and EVERYONE’S FREEDOM!
How low have the Rs sunk when they want to be ruled by a dictator? That is exactly what they are itching to vote for?!? What do they think it means when he says you'll never have to vote again in 4 years? Breathtaking ignorance. Don't forget to "roll your 'bod" on that beach my friend :-)
Hey Mike and MS pals, first I don’t know if Joe Sudbay reads this or not but have to say he is just the best. He’s like having the best substitute teacher ever. Comes to school and is like yeah instead of those 30 pages you were supposed to read, just read 3 and let’s talk and laugh. Love him and also love that he keeps us totally tuned into the importance of state elections. He’s also always complimenting us listeners. Love ❤️ you Joe!
What a joke JD is, this ticket is Trump squared. Two dummies with absolutely no morals. He’s managed to piss off cat people (yours truly, sorry but pet owners are parents), and people like Swifties who look up to a childless person. I feel sorry for his wife. She hated Trump and now she’s stuck in MAGA world, I’m sure many MAGAts don’t get her brown skin and that she’s not a trad wife nor a golddigger.
Harris is putting together a great coalition, got an email from Beto’s group who works on helping people get registered in Texas (which is very hard to register in) and they had 19,000 requests from people asking for help registering. Go young people! Go women! I remember when Clinton and Gore were the nominees and they were on CNN (Larry King maybe?) and they were wearing jeans. My Dad didn’t get that. It showed a new generation. And now we have coconut tree TikToks and Brat and this shows a new generation. And women! Women VOTE! So feeling very optimistic because this could quite easily drive down ballot races too. No we’re not going back. Freedom!
Here cooler this weekend (relative folks, like 105), but wishing NorCal would get some rain, bad fires for them. Been getting up really early and getting all my chores and swimming done and look at my watch and it’s like 11:30, lol. Have a great vacation Mike and don’t waste too much time on us, get your much needed break! Cheers all, 😎
Aww, thank you Chris. You were the one who last year said, go away and take a break and don't come here. Ha. So I'm (mostly) heeding your advice again.
Joe is so great at hosting, always know the show is in great hands and that you guy all love him.
Michelangelo, enjoy the beach knowing that TFG and JDV are writing new ads for Kamala every time they speak, “You’ll never have to vote after November, it’ll be fixed”(paraphrased) TFG west palm beach Turning Point speech 7/26/24.
Michelangelo I hope you have a great rest and a much needed break from the madness. You so deserve that and more. Listening to your show every day keeps me sane.
Michelangelo, glad your vacation is going great! All of the news of late is just exciting to me! I'm thrilled with the momentum and where the independent voters are right now with support. And now, that JD Vance ... a lying sack of hypocrite shit who was EASILY bought by the GOP ... what a fake! And the comments about the childless were unreal! Do Trump and Vance realize they are not running for a high school presidency? The name calling, the insults, the lies and jibberish from them all is just insane. I saw Chris Sununu interview on ABC Sunday morning and that guy sounded like an ignorant boob. When presented with the horrific things Tump has said threatening democracy, he just sat there and laughed nervously like a big child and said "Well, that is Trump!" like it is some kind of laughing matter and hilarious. The whole interview was laughable. The next 100 days will be very interesting! And today, Biden has said he will be working on SCOTUS reform! Music to my ears!!!
Hope you are at Ptown or someplace else where you can soak up the summer vibes and be around people who are generally people who are worth spending time with.
Still outraged at MSM who continues to cover rhe tRump campaign as if it is somehow a legitimate and normal campaign. But, feeling fairly hopeful compared to a week ago.
Just go to 'rockInst.org'. Data Hub, Data Visualizations, Balance of Payments Dashboard. I'll be happy to help. Blasting your friend is fine, but going after Republican politicians and getting it in the hands Democratic politicians seems a better place to start. And this is just a start. The Rockefeller Institute isn't exactly a bunch of raging liberals. Neither is the Tax Foundation, who assembled the data for 1981 thru 2005. Jan, the GOP are skilled liars. They use their own "alternative" facts.

Indeed, an insult to sacks of shit. Hence my referring to him as 'Tuberville' and not Senator, or even Mr. An insult to that term as well.
Rick,
See above for my response. I did something wrong.
Continue to enjoy your vacation, Mike. Joe Sudbay has been on fire this week!
Thank you Sakina! Joe is always terrific!

Yes, I'm hoping it keeps going and going, this momentum, as more people pay attention to the campaign, including young people.
Please rest up and be ready for the next 100 days, I expect more idiotic moves by Donald and his 2 Failsons…..
Not even MAGA lasts forever.
I hope the American people do the right thing and put MAGA back under the rock it came from.
Sakina, MAGA came from a volcanic rock spewed from the pit of hell, right where the GOP should go!
I hope so too Sakina.
So true!

Where ya't? Surf Nazis wanna know! LOL.
Have a wonderful vacation Michelangelo. The show is in good hands and you’ll need to be rested and renewed for the rollercoaster to come.

Take a look at the Per Capita data. That’ll piss you off.
