Weekend thread: What's going on?
The warning bells on Sinema began with my interview in 2013. Kari Lake files lawsuit to overturn Arizona election. Racist attacks on Brittney Griner continue, showing GOP learned nothing.
The news yesterday that Senator Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona is leaving the Democratic Party to become an independent wasn’t shocking, as self-serving as it is.
Disingenuously wrapping it in high-minded talk about independence showed the deceit of a ruthless, calculating politician, a narcissistic shape-shifter who will do whatever it takes. I had first-hand experience with that when I interviewed her in 2012, when she was in her first House race — a tight race in a purple district — and she could not remember having come out as bisexual.
She literally said “I don’t remember” when I asked about the very public event, on the floor of the Arizona legislature. You have to listen to it to believe it (clip below). It should have been the first warning sign to Democrats that this individual was going to be highly problematic.

This was after an appearance days ago at — you guessed it — Mar-a-Lago.
And the racist attacks on Brittney Griner and her return home, released from a Russian penal colony, have continued all week. It underscored the white supremacist danger omnipresent in the Republican Party, and how MAGA — and Donald Trump — still control the narrative, and thus the direction of the party.
