Weekend thread: What's going on?

Trump makes threat against McConnell. CPAC sends out pro-Russia tweet, deletes it. Independents are dumping Trump and the GOP.

Mitch McConnell made his bed with Donald Trump — refusing, twice, to convict him in an impeachment trial. He allowed the the MAGA movement and the Big Lie to grow, to the point where it’s now consuming the GOP, becoming a drag on McConnell’s chance to take the Senate. And now Trump is making what appear to be death threats against McConnell and racist remarks about his wife. It’s mind-boggling, and chilling, how the GOP whips up violence and hate — even against itself.

CPAC, the Conservative Political Action Conference, meanwhile, has gone completely off the rails, sending out a tweet that seemed to herald Vladimir Putin for annexing Ukrainian territories and lambasted President Biden for sending more aid to Ukraine. Are these people on the Putin’s payroll? Who’s bankrolling CPAC these days? Just when you think the GOP and the MAGA movement couldn’t get more extreme.

It’s not a shocker then that new polling shows independent men dumping Trump in a big way, and independent women dumping the GOP after the overturning of Roe v. Wade. Another data point that bodes well for Democrats in the mid-terms.
