Weekend thread: What's going on?

Biden slams attack on Pelosi, right-wing hate. Youngkin refused to apologize for joking about it. Trump is silent.

The violence that Donald Trump and the GOP have promoted and fostered for years has now resulted it an assassination attempt against House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, third in line for the presidency. Think about how terrifying that is.

Pelosi was targeted at her San Francisco home by a crazed MAGA cultist who was ginned up on Trump and the GOP’s hate and lies. Every Republican leader, from Mitch McConnell to Kevin McCarthy is responsible for this attack. President Biden rightly pointed to the GOP and the Big Lie.

While many Republicans went through the motions of condemning the attack they’d helped precipitate though, Governor Glenn Younkin of Virginia actually joked about. And given a chance to apologize later, he refused.

At the same time, Twitter was officially taken over by Elon Musk, and white supremacists celebrated by tweeting the N-word and other racist slurs over and over again on the platform. Musk is intent, as he promised, to bring back Trump — who has been silent on the attack on Pelosi.
