DOJ investigating Trump for Espionage Act violation as House Dems launch probe. Right-wing extremists ramp up violent threats. House passes Inflation Reduction Act, sending to Biden's desk.
As the bombshell news broke that Donald Trump is being investigated by the Department of Justice for several possible crimes — including espionage — in addition to the separate investigation surrounding his incitement on January 6th, it’s for the first time looking like Trump is in very deep trouble and it won’t just disappear.
And the GOP, which had doubled down on embracing him earlier in the week, is scrambling, with many Republican politicians going silent.
The threats of violence, however, are increasing, much of it inspired by GOP rants from earlier in the week about the search, and with Trump telling his MAGA minions he is the victim of a witch hunt.
The threat of violence aside —and everyone should remain alert — all of this is only enhancing Democrats’ chances in the mid-terms as the GOP is tethered to a traitor, while the House passed the Inflation Reduction Act, the largest climate bill in history and a bill that will raise taxes on the wealthy and allow Medicare to negotiate prescription drugs. Even some of the most formerly pessimistic pundits, like Nate Silver, are now saying the House is a “toss-up” for the mid-terms.
