I think we should give each other and government officials at all levels grace in their COVID response. It was an epidemic not seen in 100 years. I am a genealogist, so I am aware of how many people died, 5 in my family, from diseases that we now have vaccines against. I have 2 people in my family with polio. I am therefore pro-vaccine and pro-mandate for vaccines. I was skeptical of the vaccine at first, since it was developed so quickly, and I waited 3 months to see how people fared who had taken it. I am aware that 3 months is not a long period of time, and effects show up years later, but I weighed that against the effects of getting COVID. Now, 5 years later, I know personally about 20 people who died or whose loved ones died from COVID. None of those people were vaccinated. I don't know anyone personally who suffers from long COVID. I don't know anyone, even by association, who has had a negative effect from getting the vaccine.
As a genealogist, I am also aware of how, a century ago, cities enforced quarantines against disease fairly regularly. So I am more comfortable with quarantines and other health regulations like masking than other people may be. I am also a teacher; we regularly perform safety measures, like fire drills, that are inconvenient and may be unnecessary if a fire never breaks out, but that are essential to have done if a fire does break out. I have no patience for people who complain about safety procedures, because they are in place to save your life if an extreme circumstance happens.
I belong to a nation-wide police survivor organization, and I can tell you that the number of law enforcement officers who died of COVID was double in counties that did not enforce vaccination or quarantines, as compared to counties that did.
Yes, in hindsight, we stayed shut down longer than necessary, having severe effects on education and mental health, especially of children. My school district remained shut the longest in our area. But that was because we asked the parents, and that was what they wanted. When we did open, about 3/4 of the students were absent at any given time with COVID in their family or exposed to COVID. Yes, it was extremely detrimental. That's COVID's fault, not the government's fault. It would have been even more detrimental if all those people had died.
I was and am very angry at people who refused to be vaccinated, got COVID, and then spread it to other people who were then very sick for weeks or hospitalized. If you don't want the vaccine, that's your decision, but then stay home so you don't hurt other people.
The economy was destroyed, yes, inflation was incredibly high, yes. But the huge amounts of money spent kept us out of another Great Depression. And it kept people alive. How much worse would our economy be if millions more people had died?

Regarding Covid, I really don’t give government any grace. The ‘pre-Covid me’ would have agreed with you, but the government so badly abused our trust throughout the entire ordeal, I give them exactly ZERO credit and/or excuse. Anyone with an ounce of skepticism knew at the time that they were lying about the lethality of the virus. They knew AT THE TIME that the disease was orders of magnitude less deadly than they and the media led us to believe for the vast majority of Americans. It was a serious risk for older Americans with co-morbidities, but hardly worth the fear porn they pumped out 24x7 throughout the ordeal. The disease posed hardly any real risk to healthy young people…exactly the people most negatively impacted by the draconian measures government implemented and kept in place for WAY too long. I’m sorry to hear so many people you know died during the pandemic. I did not have that experience. And the government so badly botched tracking of Covid deaths, I think it’s impossible to say how many people died FROM Covid vs. those who died with Covid (i.e. complicated by other co-morbidities). The government also created a perverse incentive via reimbursement rates for hospitals to report deaths as being caused by Covid. There were situations where people killed in motor vehicle accidents were counted as Covid deaths simply because they had covid at the time. There was zero scientific basis for masking, social distancing, and school closures. We knew at the time that the vaccine didn’t prevent the spread of the disease. We knew at the time that the disease came from the Wuhan lab. I know this because books were written about it AT THE TIME. Respected virologists and other scientists said so AT THE TIME, but were quickly censored, silenced, and professionally ruined ILLEGALLY by the government ‘disinformation’ police.
The one good thing that came from Covid, in my opinion, is that it opened Americans eyes to the authoritarian tendencies of the government, the political capture of our mainstream media, and the willingness of the masses to willingly go along with half-baked science if enough fear was pumped into the system. There is an argument to be made for it being a mass-formation psychosis, in my opinion.
In terms of vaccine injuries, there are studies being released from some of the most heavily vaccinated countries indicating increased excess deaths. There sure seems to be A LOT of cancer going around these days. Anecdotally, we are burying my mother-in-law on Sunday. She was diagnosed with an ultra-rare and aggressive form of cancer less than a year ago. She was also fully vaccinated and boosted. Her disease stumped her oncologists. When you hear doctors saying ‘in my 30 years of practicing, I have never seen anything like this’, it makes you question things.

Trump seems oblivious to guys like Adam. He thinks he still is worshipped by all GOP voters (including Independent leaning GOP,) while his approval rating dips further and further. He pretends it is not happening, but of course, being a Trump supporter also means you must escape reality, since he and MAGA claim prices are lower and his tariffs are not causing them, while he just had to eliminate tariffs on items (beef, coffee, etc.) that are skyrocketing because of them. Can they now admit they were wrong and his idiotic tariff policy is raising their prices? Of course not! They'll just claim, see, Trump cares about lowering costs and he's doing it! Of course, he's lowering the costs of items HE made us pay this tax on.
We are in an idiocracy loop and I don't think there are enough Adam's yet to make a difference, but we'll see in the mid-terms. Taking the house away from the GOP will be enough to slow his madness down. Getting the senate too would really make him the full lame duck he is. Pray and hope for this MS fans!

No one who voted for Trump 3 times is dumping him because of Ukraine or tariffs as Trump is doing exactly what he promised he would do on those fronts. Epstein files, maybe, but only because he’s handled the release poorly…no one who voted Trump 3 times thinks he is implicated in the files.
