Good Morning Michelangelo, must admit, it seems there is no subject this fellow has not lied about in his personal or “business” life. Secondly, has anyone asked to view his birth certificate? Third, I see his campaign was given a rather large sum from a 3rd party connected to a Russian oligarch, why has he not that made public? Fourth, as a member of the Jewish community I find his pandering to his Jewish voters abominable, claiming his relatives were refugees from the Nazis, now that reflects someone who has serious mental health issues. And finally we find out he owns a residence/condo in Brazil worth close to half million. All my issues point to a very delusional, serial fabulist and generally sick individual, however a clear reflection of the current Republican Party. Thank you for really shining a very bright light on this Long Island grifter.

His opponent, Robert Zimmerman, is authentically Jewish, so Santos surely culled votes away from him. Another reason every republicon candidate should be thoroughly vetted by their opponents.

Michelangelo, the other day on Post someone wanted to debate with you about whether dems or the media were accountable for the lack of vetting on this clown before he was allowed to leave the circus.

I agreed with you then and I agree with you now that this is a dem strategy problem even more than a media problem; dems have GOT to activate their ruthless gene and oppo-research the hell out of rethuglicans, and once they have the info release it and be relentless about it.

Enough with the go high bullshit, this is not a game for many of us, it's our lives that are at stake every time a grifting ass rethuglican gets through (and frankly that's the majority of them, not just this clown).

So many liars so little time. What a messhupginah kook. The mendacity and temerity is beyond exhausting. It’s as if Invasion of the Body Snatchers meets Springer. While Trump may be fading the legacy of condoning non stop lying MAGA anti democratic candidates is going to be a lot more challenging to root out. What an unconscionable dirt bag. Thank you for a brilliant piece. He was as he should be called out on his lies and you did an outstanding job of pillorying him. Personally I prefer tarring and feathering. It has a more colonial cadence.

What else would we expect of the Repugnants.....a party of grifters led by the You-know-Who of all grifters.....#griftersInc. Also interesting that we now have to 2 grifters who are currently "highlighted" in the media & who names we could easily see as "oxymorons"......De Santis & Santos.....Saints they definitely ain't ! Once again we are left puzzled as to how & why electors vote for these transparently & obviously fake candidates.

As a resident of NYS this is an outrage. Getting everyone I know to write to the NY AG to demand charges. If you "embellish" your resume for a job, you get fired and you can be charged for making false statements. It is ludicrous that this guy can be sworn in to Congress under false pretenses!

Infuriating. As a physician, not only do I have to present every diploma, certificate, and educational document each time I apply for a *new* job; but I have to present the same documentation every time I *RE*-certify for hospital privileges or insurance participation, every single year (as if my college education in the 1970s somehow changed). Any discrepancy, and I'm out on my ass--and I might lose my license, too. That this charlatan can be allowed to join the Congress after completely fabricating his entire history makes me want to scream. Oppo research? The fact that his own party doesn't care shows that the GOP is now a complete fraud. And you know what? If he ran again today, the idiots of NY-3 would vote for him again! They'd elect a moldy zucchini if it had an "R" next to it.

Same here, Daryl: All of the fees and bureaucracy to obtain or renew my psychology license, malpractice insurance, and so on is annoying, although I guess I understand it. A big part of the reason for all of these checks and balances is because of unethical behavior by some in my field. And there have been impersonators, like one of the Hillside Stranglers impersonated a psychologist and got away with it. He quit on his own and wasn't caught, moving on to serial murders instead. You would think that better vetting could occur in politics. At least put the information out there and let the voters decide. We know what the Rs would do.

It’s amazing how Republicans charge after Democrat’s discrepancies but ignore those of Republicans. They are void of a moral compass. I think Americans are waking up to this fact, and it is destroying the GOP.

I remember when even politicians could be shamed into resigning.... ahhh the good ole days.

Roland, right!?!? Even rethuglicans had an ounce of shame! The age of Trump put an end to all that. Any semblance of ethics or "respect for the institution" are out the fucking window my friend.

Hmmm, he's in serious legal trouble. He's lied on federal forms, and I'm gonna assume that holds true for the state forms (which he also has to file as a state party endorsed candidate). I suspect while Kev and his clueless crew won't pull the plug on this rather dim grifter, they won't lift a finger to help when the feds and state police show up.

But again, the STATE Democratic party should have torched this guy back in October. What is going on with the NY State Dems? Seriously! It's making NJ look highly competent (!).

You are so right; they seem to be asleep at the wheel! And they need to WAKE UP! We lost the house due to these BIG “miscues.”

Can he now be recalled? That’s all that matters.

Expand full comment

No, there is no mechanism for recall. he can either be forced to resign -- surely if he's indicted or public outcry grows-- or voted out in 2024.

I think that is up to McCarthy who is equally despicable.

Expand full comment

Alas, there is no such mechanism in NY.

For the record, the GOPers have been frauds ever since they started the "southern strategy" of the late 60's, to which snowballed with the moral majority movement of the 70's, the militia/gun nut movement of the 90's, the tea party garbage ofthe 10's, and now this blatantly fraudulent MAGA movement of today. There just out in the open today with their con-jobs being totally oblivious to the consequences. Unfortunately with the way the federal courts are stacked, they will probably get away with it.

Santos is so full of bullshit that he rivals Tzilla. Could he become the next President?

Expand full comment

Only if dumb muthafuccas vote for him....

Santos is DeCaprio from the film, Catch Me If You Can. He is a congenital liar and sociopath. The Democratic Chairman of New York State bears a lions share of responsibility for not vetting Santos. The problem is that it is difficult to rid the body politic of this criminal. He will fit in with all the other Republicon sociopaths in Congress. The Democrats probably thought that they would lose the seat anyway so let's put money where we have a chance to win. Every seat is important and they should adopt that policy in the future.

Doesn't anybody remember the Eddie Murphy comedic movie Distinguished Gentleman where con man Murphy, whose name was similar to Jeff Johnson a recently deceased FL Congressman (FL, of course), ran for office as a con, never appeared in ads, and adopted a "white sounding" voice. The joke was that the constituents never realized who he was, and that the Congressman had died. After he won office, Murphy went on to find out the real con was political fundraising. It is a classic movie but, in a turn,-around Murphy comes clean. The Santos story is even more fantastical!

The gop likes to call these things an innocent, accidental slip on details. Surely that can happen to anyone ( this is where they point to dems who have an unintended problem, like the laptop) so under that description every human has had experience with, they roll a totally false background, intentional and pervasive. When it’s brought up, the pull out the previously mentioned (people make mistakes) hoping nobody notices. Well we did, now go after it dems and media. Media goes after dem problems because the gop demands and cheerleads forcing it. If dems don’t ( particularly house members) go after it and stay on it , it dies.

This is so appalling and frustrating- he should not be seated in January and there should now be a special election in NY 3
