Let’s all stop using the moniker “GOP”. Let’s call them MAGA or MAGA Republicans. There really is no GOP anymore. I’ve asked this of Thom Hartmann and Dean Obedallah as well. The only ones on Sirius Progress or Substack that have changed this are Jeff Teidrich and John Fugelsang. MAGA Republicans no longer deserve this quaint moniker. They are not older than the Democratic Party. …and they have changed. MAGA is an authoritarian movement. This seems like a small thing. However, we need to change our messaging. We need to resist.
What is disgusting is that he is getting away with everything and is being handed back more power than ever before. In disheartening and the news media is just treating this like everything is normal to point where even I have to sit back and say "well, let's see what they can do", but I refrain!! Because they are monsters!! Also, with the circular firing squad, I think that Michael Tomasky's piece in the New Republic really underscores what really is the key reason why democrats have lost so much in this election cycle. I was talking to someone yesterday, who said "well, Biden should messaged what he was accomplishing" and this led me to ask the question ... if the message wasn't out there that Biden signed this legislation "how did we know about it"? Someone was reporting that Biden was getting these things done. The other thing that really sticks in my craw, is if they loved Trump so much, why didn't he win in 2020? I think if we think in terms of sports and football, we just passed the political football to the GOP, but we can get it back in 2 years., as you mentioned, they don't have a super-majority, one or two seats can be won back in 2 years!! It has happened before. Also, the American people are fickle, and they will expect results and if they don't get them, its over!! but what do I know. I am going to be selfish and say for me, my biggest reason for voting for Kamala Harris aside from the fact she represented change and prosperity for all, is that I do believe Trump is clueless on economic policy and doesn't give a damn to help the working class. My taxes have been out of whack since the tax code change in 2017, I haven't put my finger on why, but i think it has to with the standard deduction versus, my previous deductible items (property taxes, and mortgage interest) ... but I digress!! I think with the trifecta, the GOP fever dream one can only say "be careful what you wish for and with great power, comes great responsibility"
Like many people with high real estate property taxes (over $10,000/year) you lost a large tax deduction since 2017, depriving you of thousands of dollars in state and local tax refunds (SALT.) For example, if you’ve paid $15,000/year in real estate property taxes, you’ve lost a $5000 deduction (or more if the taxes have increased) every year since 2017. It’s set to expire in 2025 (Trump put it in effect for eight years) and it’s doubtful with republicon majorities that SALT repeal will happen.
If you’re in a red state, with low SALT, you weren’t affected at all, it’s the blue states with the highest taxes (the ones who didn’t vote for Drumpf of course.) He knew what he was doing (vendettas again) when he put SALT “on the table.”
I am watching this stuff and thinking that no good will come of it. I mean, this won't be sustainable, will it? Letting these inmates run the asylum? It will have to (hopefully) crash and burn, though there will be a lot of collateral damage, unfortunately.
LMAO, little Marco as Secretary of State?!? And Stefanik (repping MAGA) at the UN?!? Then there's Noem in charge of Homeland Security, now there's a mouthful! What a shitshow we have in store. Fasten your seat belts kids, it's going to be a bumpy 4 years.
DB, the act of pressing “like” to your on the money comment on something GREATLY disliked, loathed even, feels like cognitive dissonance in action, an oxymoronic situation of two things that don’t belong together…. IOW, how can it be to like something I hate ? Does not compute, but is perfect fit for this upside down and inside out America these last 8 years. When o when, o when shall we ever dig ourselves out of this orange s-hole and be more sane of a nation as a whole ?? Not a nation of too many a-holes.
In Trump's mind, he has a mandate. Trump voters also gave him the House and Senate, so Republicans will be quick to make their first destructive policies into law. Starting with tax cuts to the wealthy and corporations that will add trillions to the debt. And I read they are preparing a law to cut SS benefits for those who also receive a company pension. Something that affects me personally as I am recently retired and rely on my pension and SS benefits to live on.
I am so sorry, I hope for your sake the sake of others who rely on these programs that they aren't successful!! I think if they try to touch social security, people are going to revolt!!
I feel you. My husband is on SS disabilty and VA pension, and we are terrified. We can't survive without his income right here in my home town of Naples, FL which has turned into an overpriced cesspool of MAGA.
"Read they are preparing a law to cut SS benefits for those who also receive a company pension. Something that affects me personally as I am recently retired and rely on my pension and SS benefits to live on"...this is ME as well. I have been retired about 10 years now. I am sorry that this MAGA madness will affect so many of US.
The US has a long, long history of racism. Couple this with Greed and selfishness and you have the MAGA GOP TRUMP Party. The former GOP doesn't exist any longer. White senior here, hardcore Democrat.
Just want to say not this old white woman or her white partner and not my two white sons and my white friends. But we live in NY so it probably didn't matter.
I don't think it's correct to start a negative perspective with "white people blab, blab, blab"; all evil actions/deeds are not race based. There is plenty of evil spewed by all races. Some of "WE Blacks" were stupid enough to vote for trump as well.
close to 60% of white Americans voted for Trump including over 50% of white women. Yet so much of the media and liberals focus on Harris "only" getting like 88% of black vote. Sorry but misogyny and racism are why Trump is POTUS again.
So, Trump is picking the most loyal and sychophantic. Good, because if they aren't competent, that is excellent news for democracy. Yeah, they're a bunch of collective thugs, but my heavens, if they have one brain cell across the MAGA-verse, we're lucky. So, all sorts of civil rights violations are gonna ensue, and then off to various courts we go. I hope the Dems focus on local and state races for this year, getting great people elected. Also, the NATIONAL party needs to stop with the circular firing squad. Harris was done in by the party elites, who have been consistently feckless and reckless--no discipline. Meh!
So glad you had as your guest someone who realizes the right wing propaganda machine is the biggest reason Harris lost. Every time one of your callers says the Dems aren't doing enough to get the word out I want to scream and what's worse people like Bernie who failed to make his case in the primaries yelling at the Dems when they did what he did. Failed to get across to voters. Blaming and finger pointing has reached a fever pitch and to see Pelosi jumping on that band wagon sickens me. Even progressive hosts have been acting like when Biden speaks all competing forces shut up and wait for people to absorb what he says. It reminds of the high school principal making an announcement in the school cafeteria where after the announcement everybody immediately goes back to their smart phones. One thing I've noticed is after the election talk of misinformation has essentially dried up in the press and the righties are treating this win as a moral reckoning of perfectly informed voters choosing Trump. I was also glad to see the recognition that Fox started this and stop pretending kike we are still in the Cronkite era of news reporting and to stop believing Americans are too decent and smart to be fooled or changed by mere repetitive mind washing propaganda decade after decade. I can see how the Dems and progressives would rather believe they still have some control with just the right message than to admit the GOP noise machine can't be overcome. I believe Bernie is especially resistant to that idea so he must blame the Dems rather than admit how hard it is to get through the media structure we have.
I subscribe to Let’s Address This with Quasim Rashid. He wrote a piece today on things Biden can do now to stick some major roadblocks up. I hope someone in Bidenverse is listening. I am also, as a Californian, glad Newsom went to DC this week to try to push through several approvals the state is waiting for. I’m latching onto these, and vacant House seats, and that they’re still counting ballots for House races (Whitesides won yesterday!), to give me some hope. Plus I know MAGA will massively overreach, and while that will mean short term suffering, it will mean voters who fucked around will find out even sooner. One personal aside, on Veterans Day In-N-Out gives free meals to vets. Hubs and I went yesterday so he could get his free meal since he is a Vietnam vet. Kept thinking Fake Bone Spurs wouldn’t qualify. Anyway onward and upward. Keep supporting non-corporate media and GET OFF XITTER!

Spot on
You are right. It’s not republicon, it’s Magacon.

A bunch of incompetents! As long as they kiss his ass, he's happy. Our country is the laughing stock of the world.

it will be another revolving door!

White people voted overwhelmingly in favor for Trump as Dictator and we blacks couldn't save America from its racist self.

I agree, and to be 1000% clear I think trump is an idiot and should be no where near the peoples's White House - he is ONE ignorant white boy.

We need NEW leadership -- young, dynamic dems. The oldsters like Pelosi and Schumer need to retire. The old way isn't working anymore.
I subscribe to Let’s Address This with Quasim Rashid. He wrote a piece today on things Biden can do now to stick some major roadblocks up. I hope someone in Bidenverse is listening. Bidenverse needs to get going with the roadblocks-yesterday!!!
Let's try a thought experiment.
We all know that trump's principal modus operandi is to project guilt on others as a cover for his own.
So what if trump's four years of persistent accusations of the 2020 election being rigged was to actually rig the 2024 election?
Now what?
