I'm still amazed at the cult following Trump still has. People willing to die for Trump??? For Donald Frickin' Trump???

Expand full comment

For him, yes, and for what he represents. If they can put someone else like DeSantis forward, then Drumpf will be history but the cult of hate will continue.

Here's my take on it for what it's worth:

They don't know Trump. They don't really care about Donald Trump the person, the billionaire criminal, the rapist, the psychopath. They don't care that he despises them and rooks them for every dime he can.

He ran for president because he wanted the power and accolades and to be seen as "great". And that happened to coincide with incredible disillusionment on the part of a great many people in this country who felt left behind, left out, and irrelevant. Trump became a figurehead, the "non-political" hero who would "drain the swamp" of the politicians they saw as completely out of touch.

Once he became a candidate and the racism, classism, and misogyny started coming out, a whole other sub-group felt like they could come out from under the rocks. Then they all clumped together like virus cells and here we are.

What I didn't really understand was how much of the Republican political infrastructure was waiting and ready for something like this with the intention to advance fascism and authoritarianism. So now here I am living in Arizona with Trump candidates having swept the primaries. Wish I could say I saw it coming. I foolishly expected the party would at least pretend to try to keep him in check rather than seize the opportunity he represented.

Last night I watched the original "Manchurian Candidate" again and then read Roger Ebert's old review. Scary how relevant THAT all is.

Wow, great summarization, Diane. What could have been worse, (and why didn't the Left use it earlier? is the great amount of laughing and mockery going on now, directed at the Trump Mafia. The bully will shrivel up under relentless mocking.

I don't know that any one of us here on the ground could have seen this coming, that an entire party could turn into sour grapes....and let's hope it' a "once in a US history" moment!

Any swing state or swing district can be targeted by the dark money groups from now on, and Arizona is still a swing state. But Keep Hope Alive! There are more of us than them, more of us vote than them, and more of us wants what's best of humankind than them.

The Democratic Party must figure out how to rehabilitate parts of the country that corporate manipulation and greed have left behind, and they must do it fast!

Thanks for your contribution to this Signorile Special Place!

And one did die yesteray in Cincinnatti, apparently, when he attacked the FBI office there, with just a gun and a bullet-proof vest. Was this a suicide mission? Did he not try to wait a couple minutes and consider what the FBI might HAVE in that building?!! I put nothing past them, although I'm happy for the moment that the Right is the FBI target instead of us. So appropriate and full of irony - dude died out in a cornfield.

I’m still wondering why it took a year and half to get these nuclear documents!!!

Yes. I listened to Stephany Miller this morning where the guest wanted to know why the DOJ would "work with" Donald Trump and his lawyers while knowing that nuclear secrets were hanging in the balance. If they didn't know until now, it's just as disturbing as knowing and not acting. He also said that a sitting President is essentially immune from justice while he is in office is a huge flaw in our democracy that the founders failed to address.

I listened to the same show and almost blew my coffee when Frangela said something to the effect of "imagine what would happen to me if I tried to walk out of the White House with a napkin".

I didn't hear that, but it sounds like Frangela and is spot on as usual.

I am growing less worried.

Now and then, I shoot over to newsmax.com and read the comments: they are raging in madness.

(Like Ghandi, I believe madness accomplishes nothing; however, anger is good.)

I see the Trumpers as devolving into madness; and the normal people, angry.

This madness will turn on itself, and exhaust itself -- it will enable the undecided (how can there possibly be undecided? But there are) to see the madness.

At this time, the Democrats need only four states to keep the Senate; and it is likely to be Georgia, Pennsylvania, Arizona and Wisconsin (New Hampshire could be the icing on the cake).

And they are gaining in the Governor polls and the House (I now have hope for the House).

It will be brutal and I fear some will go totally insane and kill, but I think it will work out.

I check this site every morning: https://www.realclearpolitics.com/

I wish that I could trust the polls (i.e., voters). Why are many of these races even close? Or people being undecided. Really? I felt the same way in 2018 when we could have taken back the Senate to perhaps a filibuster-proof majority. Yet voters re-elected McConnell, Graham, and so on, even Susan Collins! The R's will not get it nor move on from DJT unless they get resoundingly defeated in the coming elections.

The reason was because the racism was unleashed and George Floyd sparked protests. What better way to plug the dam than to re-elect closet bigots to stem the progress.

I'm glad you said it ArnieB because I was thinking something like that.

Please don't make me cry. I live in Norway now (got out) and I am a little stoned and it's Friday night and I am having a wonderful time thinking that we will take the House too.

So be quiet with that! And stop it right now! ;-)

It appears to me that the attack on the FBI clearly demonstrates that Trump is promoting the use of threats as the means to intimidate authorities, law enforcement, and bureaucrats into submission and to cause them to become too scared to execute their legally mandated duties. As evil is represented by the snake eating itself, beginning with its tail, Trump and his allocates will surely fail by choking on itself. Nonetheless, as the Tulsa Race massacre in the early summer of 1921 showed, if Proud Boys and Oath Keepers were Black along with Trump, I seriously doubt that authorities, mainstream media, and the public would be so "careful." If said using current events: if the Black Lives Movement members did just 1% of what white militia and nationalist groups and elected officials are doing now, we would see 99% of lash back by authorities and main press media by any means necessary-yet we must realize that the pen is mightier than the sword. I believe in time that more middle-stream and even far-right white folks will soon not be able to deny the criminal facts about Trump. However, some will still be committed to the insane choices of pushing for a senseless civil war that will be impossible for them to win. Yet, it could change the political landscape of this Republic to become a Gilead-Pro-White State, with Trump as their Hitler. Could this be their ultimate aim and the desired outcome: kick all the brutes out by any means necessary (see Raoul Peck, "Exterminate all the Brutes," an HBO documentary)?

People should know by now that AG MG has an ax to grind regarding the Moscow Mitch engineered snub of years gone by. That play to clue in the rest of former usa on the contents of the raid was a masterstroke. It exposed the gop for the grifters and intellectually deficient beings they really are. On the fence voters can truly rescue democracy if they are remotely interested in doing so.

I'm not going to get too excited, but was so relieved after listening to Garland yesterday. Then, this morning, the hapless GOP Congressrats tried to turn the shit they've stepped in into Shinola. It was hilarious. They all had such dumbstruck, "get me outta here" looks on their faces. Priceless!

My money is still on Tish James...END the Orange person.

Mike, I saw the touring group of HAMILTON here in Seattle last night; as you can imagine it was a superb blast of everything we should know about revolution, and how the faces in those colonial clothes COULD have been black or brown. It reminded me of the great African American Artist who is transposing Black faces and Black bodies onto formerly white paintings and changing how we look at those moments. Most of his early work was in NYC.

Beautiful day here, so got to run. Tomorrow Dems here are scheming on how to keep control of our Legislature (in my district), and find out what the state party is going to do about the MAGA candidate that has raised his head in SW Wash.

Have joined a health subcommittee of the Seattle/King County League of Women Voters. I've been amazed at how, just in the last two months, the Committee's tiny, exhausted looking membership has started grow, as women search for places to become active. We need to immediately take on the reproductive rights question (and get a Washington State abortion rights rule in the state constitution). We will also be fighting the signficant amount of "Catholic" health care in Wash, which has been damaging people with uteruses or LGBTQ folks or folks terminally ill (without our Right to Die) for over 10 years now.. It feels like sort of like the Chuch sex abuse scandals world-wide, and indigenous peoples' boarding schools horrors all over North America. It will be another disaster that The Church is visiting on the unaware and the vulnerable. We've already had a decade of US Bishop Conference-manipulated health care in Washington State.

Later taking on the ACO Reach (Medicare) privatization scheme) program, which is scheduled to start taking effect on 1/1/23, and many other issues.

And the Repugnican party is following right along in lockstep (goosestep?!?). What I don't get is what do they value more than anything else? Money, right? I hope they are completely invested in hidden offshore accounts or in their favorite military armaments companies because I don't get how they are gonna shield that once a civil war starts. Their greed is surely gonna lead them to some pain. The military is going to defend the US constitution, no?!?

The Maggot is a clear and present danger to this country. He is pure evil who is deranged. He must be stopped once and for all. In general I am against the death penalty but in the case of the Maggot I fully support ending his ugly life.

Any other country would have imprisoned trump by now. He is constantly raising his fist and encouraging his cult to fight, be strong, et al. They need to lock this creep up. He is public enemy #1. He's activated his white supremacist fans on his Truth Social media site and they are armed and ready to "take back the country", whatever these idiots mean by that.
