"First, they came for others, and I was silent. Then they came for me, and there was no one else around." The religious zealots and far right-wing pundits seemed to be having their way so much that peeling away rights have elevated to now using a sledgehammer and a battle-ax with immunity! Will our reality in America become the embodiment of Hulu's excellent series, "The Handmaiden's Tale?"

This country continues to spiral out of control when it comes to the rights and freedoms of its citizens, but one thing seems clear, this Repugnican party is content to supplant all people who truly believe the words of the founders of it further and further away from its ideals.

You know Michelangelo when I was young people did not discuss religion nor wear it on their sleeve. These people seem to think that they are in the majority, they are not! The numbers of people abandoning organized religion for personal spirituality continues to grow, perhaps as a result of the pushes to control the masses?!? I don't know where it ends, but it will end with a bang, not a whimper I'm afraid. People can only be pushed so far before they fight back and that day of reckoning is getting ever closer as they continue to denigrate the rights of the majority.

Their way to win is to cheat and lie every election so they can win. Rump is doing his dirty work and leading the GOP. Even those who oppose him, vote in unison to block any progressive legislation.

The entitlement of people like this man, to think he has the right to take personal, intimate, rights from others because he doesn’t believe in those rights is narcissism on steroids. It makes me sick that there are people in this country that use their religious beliefs to take rights from others. No one is demanding that they have an abortion. And how the hell does 2 people who are of the same sex and in love affect this mans life in anyway because they want to be married? Not for one single nano second. Yet their guns continue to kill innocent people, and their religion keeps demeaning and depressing women. It’s all about privacy, which Republicans seem to think only applies to their lives.

Agree! Also their right to carry a gun jeopardizes our right to go anywhere without some nut shooting us.

Maybe they should go ahead and make abortion and gay marriage illegal -- get this over with and start the war. For, as of now, we have all become too complacent. It will take a social war, and it might as well start now, (and throw gun control into the picture too). They are not going to change, they will keep trying, so we might as well start the war.

There are not really that many of them. They only appear empowered. The pandemic locked them into an echo chamber and they are making their last stand, thinking (like the Trumpers) that they are the majority. To paraphrase Admiral Yamamoto, they are only waking a sleeping giant. So, let them sound their alarm and wake up the sleeping giants.

As an aside, I find it fascinating that of two men, two women and a man and a woman, the lowest divorce rate is between two men, followed by a man and a woman. Lesbian divorce rates are nearly double that.

I wonder if many of them (them meaning: the men of the religious right), are indifferent to lesbians, but terrified of two men sharing their dicks (sorry to bring this to a lower denominator, but I am thinking about what they are thinking). Meaning: I think a lot of these guys fighting gay marriage really want to join the club.

This is utter nonsense.

What is this fascination with "war?" The idea of trashing all rule of law, or having a revolution? Who is filling your head that this action is even an option? All the innocents that get hurt in the process is always ignored.

It is not glorious or wonderful and not a guaranteed outcome. It is truly foolish to even consider this path. History proves it. Read up.

Check the history of the Russian revolution and The White Army and what happened to them!

They were the ones who started the Russian revolution with goid intentions, yet the Red Army with the Bolsheviks hijacked their revolution. The outcome was the horror of the 80 years of the USSR, Dictatorial Communism, Stalin, and the death of many innocents!

Um it's called poetic allusions?

But, dude, get a grip? Bolsheviks? Sheesh.

By the way, you know, had the powers not arrogated food to the point of mass starvation, maybe the Soviet revolution would have been so fierce -- not an outright war of errors.

And now, not only are there many poor in the US, the dumb-ass Republicans are muttering about taking away gay marriage and a woman's choice.

So, dude, you go ahead and study the excesses of the Russian revolution--you'll need it.

As a married lesbian with many married gay and lesbian friends I am worried sick about this court stripping all of our rights. The majority of the SCOTUS justices are the epitome of evil and, in my opinion are working now to overturn the Lawrence and Obergefell decisions. In the very near future we will be at the mercy of the religious right and our democracy as we know it will ceases to exist unless the Democrats get rid of the filibuster and Biden puts more justices in the court. Our basic rights depend on it and unfortunately I don’t see it happening.

Once they take reproductive freedom (Roe v Wade) away from women, they'll surely go after LGBT next. Both of my children are middle-aged, gay, and married to their long-time partners so I assume they'd be grandfathered in. What about young LGBT? They are coming out everyday. It's part of nature. The GQP is out to take as many human rights away as they can to subjugate and control people. We're en route to 1940.

No grandfathering. Once undone it is gone....

Can u imagine undoing gay marriage? Legal nightmore.....property rights, wills, trusts, banking, investments and other legalities? It would be a legal nightmare.

Do you think they CARE about havoc, harm, or destruction they cause on others?

Has this crowd every shown any compassion or care of the fallout of their extreme beliefs?

No, I think they only care about themselves and their crazy beliefs.

By the way, who here did not vote for Hillary in 2016?

Did anyone warn you about this possiblity if Donald Trump got elected?

Did you believe them?

I warned those in 2016 who wanted to punish the dems, that this was a reality.

They dismissed me while sticking to their, "both parties are the same" crap because change is happening too slowly or not exactly how they want it.

Sadly too many have grown up with the option to be open, marry, adopt, and live without hiding.

Those of us who never even thought we could live openly, let alone marry, KNEW better.

Too many younger people take for granted what they can do and get away with. Protests in the 60's meant arrest and jail time. Hell, riots meant years in prison if not being killed while rioting. Even dancing together could mean jail! Ruined careers. Lost housing.

LISTEN to us horrible boomers. We did try to change it. We fought how we could and we did make progress.

Yet Trump and the GOP could wipe out 50 YEARS of gains in two Supreme Court decisions. This is not hyperbole or an attack, but realisty. We have SEEN how bad it can get and be.

Take this serious and stop punishing the one party that really cares and is willing to fight.
