I keep thinking that we keep narrowly averting democratic disasters because we are a society that has been taught to rest on our laurels instead of continuing the battle day in and day out. The acceptance of a failed reality show miscreant as leader should have galvanized us to accept no less than a Rhodes Scholar as government salesman. Thankfully we chose wisdom over 4 more years of a grifting loon. No longer a dirty secret: the one percenters are still pulling the strings...

I don’t think we can call a political tide change until we win the WH & Congress through two elections. Here’s my concern: we see stories about people in different departments who wanted to help the insurrection. But we never here what, if anything, is being done to weed those people out of the government. If they can’t honor the oaths they take to defend the country, the country should not be paying them. On this, party shouldn’t matter.

Democracy is tenuous. Here in FL, DeSatan continues to waste tax payer money on social issues. Now he's investigating the Covid vaccine and trying to stop RuPaul's show in Clearwater. I think FL is almost a lost cause, but nationally I feel Biden is doing very well. He has no time for the GOP idiots in Congress. The SCOTUS will remain a thorn in his side and in the country's side.

I am by nature a positive thinking person.

I live in Texas-where it’s hard to be positive!

But I have a great deal of faith in humanity, and our living and breathing planet.

I think it’s very irrational to believe that you do not have to fight fascism everyday.

Pushing back is a positive movement.

Goes back to James Comey FBI and giving his opinion several times, not “just the facts, ma’am”, tanking HRC just a week or two before 2016 election. Meanwhile, the FBI had been investigating DJT that summer for shady things and Comey did zero public “opinion-ating” of that. I’ll never forgive J. Comey. The Ukraine quid quo pro, didn’t seem to rise high enough to ever motivate House and Senate to convict, no hope there. But Jan 6, McConnell so totally blew it!! It was right there in the palm of his hand to finally do away with DJT, which we KNOW Mitch has long wanted, also label DT as “never can hold public office again”. But, spineless chin challenged Mitch stewed over the loss of the spinning eyed crazies and the short term electoral hit. I think he should’ve accepted the temporary set-back, took his licks, then the public memory starts to fade and the R base moves on, likely glomming solidly on to DeSantis by now. Same time frame, January 7th, McCarthy slammed DJT, he and Mitch gave us a glimmer of hope for about one or two days, then the odious shape shifting McCarthy flew down to More-Lardo gave mouth-to-mouth resuscitation and resurrected the DT. Thank goodness enough D’s and I’s for the last three election cycles have stayed motivated and GOTV, preserving our democracy, for now. As more aged out boomers (my gen) fade out, I sure hope to see continuation of young people getting motivated and taking action. They know they have skin in the game for climate heating, they want good pay for a day’s work, affordable college, SS and Medicare to be there for them. They are alert now to rights maybe taken for granted, can and have been yanked away. And most youth don’t give a rat’s ass about who’s gay, bi, straight, whatever skin tone, saying Happy Holidays “War on Christmas”, “Woke”, “CRT” nor believing as many wild eyed conspiracies. I hope to live long enough to see those who’ve grown up with hard knocks of doing periodic school lockdown training sessions, seeing far, far too many mass shootings, I hope to live to see those youth take charge and make many effective changes for the better that my gen just cannot seem to get done, too divided, too split. I hope the R House is nothing but the grandest of disarray and infighting, can’t accomplish their desires for the next two years and the public sees that and grows more disgusted with nothing but constipation and blockage from the R’s continually in disarray.

Thankfully and thanks to so many who turned out to vote, the red wave did not occur. A reprieve but I agree it’s going to require hyper vigilance and will be a protracted struggle. Never underestimate the power of ignorance and hate especially when it’s couched and hidden by “parental rights”. The Thuglican attack on democracy of course is hardly organic. It’s a multi pronged approach attacking institutions and communities simultaneously. Just ask some of the wealthiest right wing families who fund and are behind the effort to create a theocracy. Like the DeVos family. The Camelot of mainstream bigotry. I do hope that future pieces will focus on 1 part of the strategy- the culture wars manufactured by the Russian and Hungarian loving Carlson Thuglucans. The damage and threats to the LGTBQ communities are on going and when far righties can’t win by distorting who gay people are they’ll simply show up at libraries and venues under the guise of protecting children with guns & rifles. Make no mistake I can’t think of a single democracy that this occurs in can any of you ? Make no mistake death threats and showing up with weapons is not healthy. It is not protest. It is terror. Which makes me wonder I believe George santos could be backed by dark money and that Moms for Liberty and all those “ organic Lu” emergent groups are receiving financial and other support in order to create terror & chaos. 122 separate incidents of attempts to shut down drag shows is not a blip it’s a tsunami of hate and bigotry

If Santos ever did while at a college, he would have flunked and been expelled. So why do we debate whether or not he should be rejected as a congressman? Is he a good example for students and children! Absolutely not!

I hadn’t heard of Tucker and GOP members backing Putin. I just thought they didn’t want to put out as much help to Ukraine. Who in America supports Putin??
