It's July 4th. And the nation has been radically transformed.

The Supreme Court undermined the founders and the Constitution. Re-energize, and be ready for the fight.

Just a short note to say that I hope you’re all going to have a relaxing holiday weekend. Even in the face of all the turmoil we’ve experienced, it’s important to rest, recharge, and reconnect as we take in what has happened.

This is the first July 4th in which the president has “absolute immunity” to engage in crimes that are “official acts.” It’s ghastly and completely opposite of what the founders envisioned on this date in 1776, declaring independence from the king of England and creating this democracy.

A U.S. Supreme Court stacked with six extremists, 248 years later, has given the president the power of a monarch, turning upside down what the founders were clear about as they went on to draft the Constitution.

Those six on the Supreme Court are part of Project 2025, as I wrote on Tuesday, the 800-plus page blueprint for authoritarianism created by far-right groups led by the Heritage Foundation, whose president just told Newsmax: “We are in the process of the second American Revolution, which will remain bloodless if the left allows it to be.”

Think about the implications of his words.

And all of this is happening as a sensational media has helped stir fear among the American people and a panic among Democrats about Joe Biden and his debate performance. The media’s role in moments like this should be to give us solid information and analysis, not only about the stakes in the election but about the risks of any actions taken, so people can make up their own minds.

Instead, it’s all been an impulse-driven feeding frenzy, meant to have people react emotionally and with little information, as long as the corporate media get their clicks and ratings.

So, for me, it’s a July 4th weekend to reflect on everything we’ve seen and, as I urged a week ago, to take a deep breath and encourage leaders to make measured and wise decisions. The stakes in the election couldn’t be greater.

What I do know is that right now we are united—and we must remain united—in beating Donald Trump. After the Supreme Court’s actions and all else that’s happened, we have no choice but to fight. I know many of you feel the same way. Again, try to relax and enjoy the weekend so we can all be recharged for what’s ahead.
