As someone tasked with tracking and archiving white nationalist activity since 2015 I have been disturbed by all the apologetics trying to excuse violence against Asian Americans as something else. In my educated opinion the Atlanta killings did not happen in a vacuum and are part of the larger pattern if white nationalist violence that targets a multitude of minority targets and has now focused their sights on the Asian American community. It is very frustrating that with every new target of this kind of violence we have to equivocate on what the real motive might be. It is the same demographic of perpetrator, overwhelmingly white men, and their targets are non white, gender and sexual orientation minorities or women in general.

The claims that this perpetrator is suffering from a sexual problem is also not separate from right wing, white nationalist ideology which is well documented by research on MRA and incel communities.

White supremacist, Andrew Anglin even wrote a manifesto or a how to guide on how to radicalize men and brought all this hatred of others, including all women under one umbrella to bring men with these perceived grievances to support the white nationalist agenda. It was published on the daily stormer.

As far as Aaron Rupar, I would not even consider him an opinion person in media. He is a thorough and relentless fact checker and archivist of bs. The sheriff's comments were reprehensible and absolutely would not have been characterized that way if the suspect was a POC. The sheriff himself has been exposed as someone who has shared racist memes against the AAPI community.

When will we be done excusing the violence of white men? Do we have to wait until they run out of targets? This has been a problem from the beginning of our society but the problem has been clearly acute since Trump announced his candidacy. We should not allow another generation to be socialized that white nationalist violence is the norm.

Please let’s talk about the victims and the “bad day” they had . We shouldn’t care about the actions of someone who is totally & mentally a monster and their “bad day”!!!!
