MAGA man claims Trump was just "asking" about injecting disinfectant

Rick from Wisconsin says Trump didn't mean it as a cure for COVID. He was just curious. (audio embedded).

It’s hard to believe they’re still defending this, but last week on my SiriusXM program, we looked back at four years ago that day: the infamous day, April 23, 2020, when Trump suggested injecting disinfectant into the body to cure COVID. On that day, 842,614 cases of coronavirus had been confirmed by lab tests, and there were 46,838 reported deaths.

That number of deaths would skyrocket to well over a million in little over two years, as Trump kept saying, as he did from the beginning, that the numbers would be going down.

Rick from Wisconsin called in when I played the clips of Trump during that press conference, making the suggestion to inject disinfectant to kill COVID or use ultraviolet light “inside the body.”

Rick claimed that in the press conference, Trump was just “asking” the doctors and scientists standing with him if it was “possible” to use disinfectant.

Not that this should make a difference—as it’s a ridiculous thing to be asking—but if you’re working with these scientists all day, why not ask them that privately?

Why ask them in front of millions of people, causing many to actually go and inject bleach, according to poison control centers around the country in the following days?

Trump was, of course, asking them publicly so he could show that he’s got ideas, he’s smart, it’s not so bad, and there could be something positive around the corner.

Trump’s entire approach to the pandemic was to downplay it and make it seem like it would soon go away, as it just became horribly worse by the day.

As I pointed out that Trump was putting on a “show,” Rick did the usual thing that Trumpers claim when they call my program to challenge me: He accused me of talking over him and not letting him speak:

Rick: If you actually remember at the time, the Democrats were making fun of the UV light situation, when in fact several of the major colleges were actually doing well.

MS: He was talking about injecting disinfectant into the body. And he was saying, “I'm not a doctor. I'm just thinking out loud.” Why was he doing that? Why was he doing that?

Rick: Like, you got three hours to talk to your audience. I got 30 seconds or whatever until you hang up on me. If you quit talking over me, we'd get over it.

MS: I didn't talk over you. I responded to you. And you will allow me to respond to you, or you will get off the phone.

This is typical bullshit, where they buy time and play the victim. Rick then rambled off into an accusation and question about why I supposedly don’t allow comments on Facebook (I do), and then went back to defending Trump:

He asked the first question because he was trying to find out what research was being done. He never told anybody to inject bleach. He asked him if it was feasibly possible.

“Why is he doing that at a press conference in front of the entire country?” I asked Rick. “When you have limited time, you're supposed to be giving us information, not asking questions of the scientists you should be working with all the time. He's putting on a show, Rick. You know exactly what he's doing.”

It devolved from there to Rick spewing, “You’re a fucking coward.”
