It's maddening yet actually sad that these men (Graham, Schlapp, Scott) choose to deny their sexuality and at the same time, allow and enable hatred and discrimination against the LGBTQ community. Another symptom of the disease that is the GOP.

Can't wait to see how Scott addresses this so called fiancé/girlfriend.

Scott says he won’t divulge “at this time.” That probably means his campaign team hasn’t found a woman who will sign an agreement that says she wasn’t coerced to say she and Scott are dating. It’s all been done before (for ex. Rock Hudson marrying Phyllis Gates.)

And Lady G? “Sylvia” from Lufthansa? Really?

WE really don’t care (nor should we) about what people do personally, yet these hypocrite republicons think they are entitled to deny LGBTQplus rights!

Who thinks Republicans are hypocrites??? I DO, I DO! Democrats don’t care about sexual orientation. We believe in privacy of personal lives unless there is something illegal to uncover. Republicans think they belong in everyone’s bedroom and women’s bodies. I laugh all the time when these so called Christians are found to be gay, or pedophiles, philanderers, etc. I agree with the woman that called your show and said there is no way Republicans would nominate a black man as their potential President. Scott is there for show, and now he is purposely being exposed. That’s how republicans work. Have a great day.

The RepubliKKKans are obsessed with people's personal lives. It's because it appeals to the baser interests of their voters. Who the hell cares what goes on behind closed doors??? What happened to "All men are created equal." The worst are Gay Republicans. I won't even talk to them!

Once again we need to add a definition to Webster's for Repugnicans: HYPOCRITE!

I am so grateful you put the "ambiguously gay" quote at the end.

You see, I am home sick with Covid again (not as bad, this time), and taking Nyquil (and you know what that does) and I got to that line and cannot get past it.

Four minutes on and still staring at it like it's the abyss looking into me.

Sorry, Mike, I had to stop reading--I can go no further (but I like what I read till then).

I still can't decide if I should laugh or cry.

Another minute: yes, indeed -- that line is the doorway to the abyss, it is: ambiguously gay, huh?

(I think it's the Nyquil.)

The closet for South Carolina politicians must be of the walk in variety. The level of self loathing is both sad and discouraging in this day and age, but not at all unexpected in the GOP, which always seems to find time to lecture us about the "perversity" of what turns out to be their own "lifestyle choices."

The easiest way to expose their hypocrisy is to ask the heterosexuals in the party when they chose to be heterosexual. The ultimate hypocrisy is, of course, embodied in their fraudulent "we need to get government off of our backs" faux conservatism. Turns out that the only true conservatives are Democrats who believe in the right of privacy, women's reproductive rights, and the very substantive due process rights that Clarence Thomas would do away with now that he has availed himself of of them.

I love watching pissing contests among skunks...

Good one SV. Years ago, country life, I live trapped a skunk to relocate far away (toss an old blanket over trap, put it all in back of a truck). But alas, before I even got the chance to do that, it got me. Funny thing about a direct spray, it is harder to be sure whether or not actually sprayed. Like it overwhelms the ability to smell things. I asked Mrs to sniff, she wasn’t sure either. The house was surrounded by trees and nearest neighbor 3/4 mile away, so all clothes went on clothesline and a shower. For a few days after, I KNEW I had been sprayed every time I went into the bathroom, it still stunk like skunk. Hypocrite GOPpers are skunks and they have no clue, cannot tell how bad they actually stink.

Being gay would not disqualify anybody's right to run for president. But being a closeted gay, one who attacks the rights of gay people, is a deal breaker.

I had read Terris' story shortly before I read your piece, Michelangelo. In the POST story, I thought it interesting that Terris didn't REALLY walk a fine line, but sort of did (if that makes sense at all) with the gay question around Scott. It had a little of a "not that there's anything wrong with it" flavor, but still stayed far enough away from it in a "no one is saying he's gay" sort of way, so I appreciated your take on it and how you analyzed and read between the lines.

It's interesting that some of the old euphemisms and excuses come into play without irony, such as "he's married to his work" or too busy to focus on a relationship. I like that you called him on that with the idea that Scott's too busy, but, gosh, the timing is suspicious for him now to suddenly start a relationship when he's probably busier than ever.

And having Schlapp weigh-in is nothing short of hilarious.

Truth be told, both Scott and Graham have given off, to me, “gay vibes.” To me, it doesn't matter, I'm just speaking the truth and it comes from having known numerous gay, lesbian, and trans people. It's not strong, just something with the way Scott speaks and carries himself.

The problem I believe with a lot of voters, even Republicans, is the idea of being closeted. Because that is living a lie in America today, and people usually do not like liars.

I really hope it turns out Tim Scott is straight. Heterosexual anti-LGBT haters are bad enough, but gay or trans (Ms. Jenner) are even worse. Nothing depresses me more than gay or trans folks who actually work against the welfare and well-being of LGBT youth, adults and families. While I understand countless LGBT Republicans have been doing this for decades, it’s so abhorrent, and makes me sick.

Whatever Scott’s sexual orientation, he better not be having sex with has this girlfriend. In fact, he better be a virgin - he’s never been married! If Scott has had sexual intercourse in his life, this fiercely evangelical, judgmental man, who wears his devout Christianity on his sleeve, would be nothing more than a hypocrite, and a FORNICATOR.

These people literally sicken me.

Their illness, promoted by the closet they occupy together--Schlapp, Scott, Graham, et al.--is contagious within the GOP.

I don't think we need to spend time worrying about a closet-case like Scott. He is not a contender for the GOP nomination. Although, I am not opposed to outing this hypocrite who votes against LGBTQIA+ issues. I feel the same way about Lindsey Graham!!
