The Democratic National Convention —virtual edition — kicks off tonight with speeches by Senator Amy Klobuchar, Governor Andrew Cuomo, Senator Bernie Sanders and former first lady Michelle Obama, among others.
This is a thread for all of you to jump in and discuss the speeches, and your thoughts on the convention, both tonight and tomorrow.
Former GOP Ohio governor, John Kasich will speak onight. Should they have had Republicans? Why is Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez only speaking for 60 minutes?
Earlier on my SiriusXM show I had Senator Doug Jones on, discussing his speech tonight. An old friend of Joe Biden’s, he’s in a tough fight for re-election in Alabama. He’s a great guy who has supported civil rights and has a lot of integrity. Let’s help him win, check out his website.
I also spoke with Senator Tammy Baldwin of Wisconsin, who took on her fellow Wisconsinite, Senator Ron Johnson, a right-wing Trump supporter who is emboldening Trump’s worst actions.
And I spoke with Congressman Jim Cooper of Nashville, who said that Postmaster Louis DeJoy should be arrested by House leaders if he refuses to testify before the House Oversight Committee on Monday. He also talked about GOP attacks on the Postal Service, one of the most popular institutions in America.
Let me know your thoughts as you watch tonight’s speeches. Join the discussion tonight and in the morning. And I’ll be jumping in too!
i think the DNC got this format down well. The videos are powerful, emotional. The testimonials from people. Mayor Bowser from DC was great. Then there's a brief panel discussion on systemic racism, with Biden moderating. then performances. Then Rep. Jim Clyburn comes in from South Carolina. And on....it's just very well don. All shareable, and all evocative.
MIchelle Obama torn Trump apart, basically trolling him on all the things that hurt him -- his not really winning the popular vote, the number of people dead from covid, the way the destroyed the economy, white supremacy, his chaos....This was very powerful and gripping.
