The GOP's impeachment of Biden has collapsed
MAGA is having one disaster after another, and it's hurting all Americans and allowing Putin to advance.
A befuddled Rep. James Comer, chair of the House Oversight Committee.
After months of fueling their ridiculous Biden impeachment effort, the GOP’s key witness has been arrested for lying to the FBI. Alexander Smirnov, a former FBI informant, is “accused of making a false statement and creating a false and fictitious record,” according to the Washington Post.
It’s stunning, as Oversight Committee Chair James Comer had everything riding on the outlandish claims by Smirnov that Joe Biden and Hunter Biden took $5 million each in bribes while Hunter Biden was on the board of Burisma, the Ukrainian firm.
We heard the"$5 million” claim over and over for more than nine months from Comer, Jim Jordan, Nancy Mace, and a slew of House members, as well as from Sean Hannity, Laura Ingraham and other Fox News and Newsmax hosts. But now, David Weiss, the Trump-appointed special counsel who indicted Hunter Biden, has indicted Smirnov.
Thursday’s indictment implicitly argues that some of the most sensational charges Republicans have sought to level against the president and his son were based on lies.
Smirnov, according to the indictment, “transformed his routine and unextraordinary business contacts with Burisma in 2017 and later into bribery allegations against Public Official 1, the presumptive nominee of one of the two major political parties for President, after expressing bias against Public Official 1 and his candidacy.”
Authorities allege that Smirnov, in talking to his FBI handler, repeatedly expressed dislike for Joe Biden and, at one point, texted the agent that Biden was “going to jail.”
Now Comer is saying there may not be a vote on impeachment after all—duh!—though he’s wasted almost a year and millions in taxpayer dollars on this reckless farce.

There are indeed calls for an investigation into Comer—as there should be. When did he know the informant was lying? Was he aware but kept on pushing the sham impeachment?
This comes after the GOP’s House majority shrank again after the stinging defeat on Tuesday in New York in the race to replace the expelled fabricator George Santos, where Democrat Tom Suozzi trounced. In that race, the GOP tried and failed to use the issue of immigration, largely because they torpedoed their own border deal—under orders from Donald Trump—and voters saw them as unable to govern.
The night before, they impeached Homeland Security Secretary Mayorkas in a second attempt by just one vote, after their astounding screwup a week before, when the impeachment vote failed because House Speaker Mike Johnson couldn’t count votes.
Johnson has named Marjorie Taylor Greene and Louisiana’s Clay Higgins—a conspiracy theorist who believes “ghost buses” filled with FBI informants were brought in on January 6th, and it was those informants who incited the insurrection—as the impeachment managers making the case to the Senate.
The Senate leadership is looking for ways to dismiss the impeachment quickly. The act of impeaching a Cabinet official not for high crimes and misdemeanors but because they don’t like his policies has set a dangerous precedent.
And now Johnson and the Putin Caucus are refusing to vote on a clean bill for aid to Ukraine (and Israel and Taiwan), which passed overwhelmingly in the Senate with 22 Republicans voting for it.
The votes are there to pass the bill, but Johnson is refusing to bring it to the floor even after intelligence showing a direct nuclear threat from Russia with a new space technology became known this week and after today’s reported death in prison of 47-year-old Alexei Navalny, a critic of Putin who was imprisoned for exposing corruption inside Putin’s inner circle. And that’s not to mention Trump encouraging Putin to attack NATO allies.
Matt Gaetz, Greene, and the rest of the mega-MAGA extremists have a gun to Johnson’s head. But his days as speaker are numbered anyway because he’s incredibly incompetent and getting it from all sides—and in a matter of days we’ll be once again facing a government shutdown.
And Gaetz himself may soon face his downfall: The Daily Beast reports the House Ethics Committee is reviewing new evidence—and the committee met just yesterday—regarding Gaetz having allegedly paid for sex with women and with an underage teen.
A woman testified before the Justice Department that she had sex with Gaetz at a “drug-fueled party” that she was paid to attend and she gave over texts, photos, and evidence to back up her statements. All this is in addition to the committee’s investigation of Gaetz for public corruption, campaign finance violations, and exhibiting nude photos of sexual partners on the House Floor. Gaetz could be the next one after Santos to be expelled.
On top of all of this, the Republican National Committee is going broke, and now the Trump family will likely take it over—with Trump pushing for his daughter-in-law Lara Trump to be co-chair—which means that any money they do have won’t go to the House and Senate races where the GOP is in trouble, but rather “every single penny,” as Lara Trump told Newsmax, will go to electing Trump.
And senior Republicans are worried Trump will use the RNC to pay for his legal bills, as his own campaign is struggling under the weight of all of his court cases and has shelled out almost $100 million in legal fees.
That’s all in the past two weeks—and just scratching the surface—as the GOP continues to spiral downward. It’s great to see this treasonous cabal facing the music as they continue to allow Trump to destroy them—and as Democrats surge. My biggest worry, however, is that in the process, they’re putting Americans in grave danger as the threat from Putin grows ever larger, and the GOP and Trump are doing his bidding.
Let's hope sleaze-bag Matt Gaetz is out next. If his dad wasn't wealthy, he'd have been in prison long ago.
One, I live for the day that Marjorie Taylor Bike (Brit slang) gets up in front of the Senate to run a trial. It will be the funniest bit since Lucy and Ethel worked in the chocolate factory.
Two, what is it about James Comer's face that screams out to the world for a lemon cream pie?
Three, which Republican will be the first to get out front saying that Navalny had it coming?
