The defense of Bannon -- and January 6th - shows Trump in complete control, emulating autocrats. Authoritarianism expert Ruth Ben-Ghiat explains it all.
The GOP openly embraces autocracy. They are perfectly fine with the January 6th insurrection and coup Trump attempted because all they care about is power, the hell with democracy. Remember Watergate? Remember how many went to jail? What Trump and his cronies attempted was far, far greater a threat. Yet here we are so many month later. It is just terrifying.
Imo, it's not Trump. He's the useful idiot figurehead for the ones behind him orchestrating an autocratic takeover. It's Koch, it's Bannon, it's the Mercers and the dark money fueling this movement. Bannon is probably one of the most dangerous men in the US, if not globally. He has financing and backers in his quest to take down our gov't and install a far right autocracy. Sen. Whitehouse has a dark money bill that would be worth a call to senators to ask them for their support. And kill the filibuster to ensure voting rights.
The GOP should now just be called Entropy.
Indeed. No political party has ever fit the definition better.
