On Friday night Donald Trump commuted Roger Stone’s sentence — a friend who is, still, a convicted felon — as Robert Mueller himself wrote this weekend — lied to the FBI and covered up for the president.
There was lots of speculation as to why he did it now — having left Stone dangling almost until the day he went to prison — but some think it is simply because Trump needs Stone as an adviser now more than ever before, watching himself sinking in the polls.
As Florida, Texas and Arizona bring this country’s coronavirus cases to 70,000 per day, wreaking havoc on Americans and causing the death toll to rise again nationally, Trump finally wore a mask while visiting Walter Reed. Though that’s a good thing, it was way too little, way too late — but of course a lot of the media patted him on the back.
Meanwhile, a new Texas poll has Joe Biden leading Trump in that state 46-41, which is, just, wow. In Arizona, in another poll, Biden is getting 69% of Latinos. And Biden has been comfortably leading Trump in polls in Florida. The horrific coronavirus response clearly is affecting Trump in all of these states.
