Weekend Report: What’s happening?

Trump is more unhinged and dangerous than ever, and it just becomes more normalized.

As I wrote earlier in the week, I’m on vacation from my SiriusXM program, and it’s light posting here. I’m back on Monday, when we’ll do a Substack Live (I’ll send the time tomorrow), and I’ll take questions and comments from all of you.

But I couldn’t help but weigh in as I’m watching things from France and hearing from people here as well. The US is completely out of control with a crazed madman at the wheel.

Yet, when you read the American press, the further things go—ICE used as a paramilitary force, Trump threatening to seize Greenland, investigations underway of GOP opponents, the Federal Reserve chair under attack—it all becomes normalized. Greenland alone, for example, now seems more like a negotiation when you see the way it’s portrayed in the media, in which Trump will get something out of it, even if troops don’t take over the territory of Denmark. The idea’s been normalized that he’ll breach the sovereignty of another nation.

And yet, Trump is weak, tanking in the numbers, even with his own supporters, as a huge majority say he’s focused on the wrong things. There’s no question the American people are worried and engaged, ready to fight at the ballot box. But can we save democracy before Trump buries it for good?
