Trips and vacations are always good to clear the head and a rest. Vacations can allow us the chance to step back and see the same things when we return with a different perspective Glad you had what sounds like a wonderful time. More of the same insanity in your absence. Each day brings our country to new lows and higher levels of absurdity

Thanks Neil. Yes I remember when you traveled and how it refreshed you. But you're right, back here, each day is out of the control. But we fight on!

You’re welcome. You’re column to me provides clarity, hope, humor and optimism in a sea of madness and uncertainty

Whew! I lived so many days without Michelangelo and now my favorite voice is back! Welcome back to the airwaves, and to your kitchen and obsessive bread-making, Mike.

Welcome back my friend, glad you had a relaxing time in my favorite world city (been there 15 times!)

Beginning to think about selling my home on the lake, I don't want to live in rural America, if they do what I believe they are projecting (psychologically speaking), stealing the election from JB. They'd vote for Orange Hitler even if he was in prison, because they hate blacks, latinos, gays, women, etc so much. I've been thinking about Spain for many years, spent quite a bit of time in the Valencia area and have several friends there. It looks like cooler heads prevailed (and young people voted) and VOX remains a minority party, for now, in Spain. Have a great week!

Thanks! I actually looked at apartments in Madrid last year. Spain would be a wonderful place to live. And Valencia is great. We also took note last week of how easy it is to retire in France.

Benvenuto a casa! I would have used French but, I'm still angry at them for dissing our Freedumb fries way back in the day. lol. Anyway, like me, you're Italian!

Joe was awesome as always. A more energetic, enthusiastic and intelligent guest host does not exist IMHO. He's a gem!

I thought that pic you highlighted with the DQ's actually reminded me of, "The Village People!" LOL.

Get busy, you have a mountain of madness to move.

Ciao 4 Now,

BB

I've always said that kids will hear worse stuff on the playground and school bus than what they would hear in the classroom. The older kids will tell the younger ones sex jokes and of course they will hear "locker room talk".

This Babble moves sounds pretty lame to me. One million moms needs to get a life.

Welcome back M. !!! Mr Sudbay is great and I also look forward to hear what you have to bark into the mic. Hopefully some Rumper calls in and attempts to spread BS and you quickly shut down with facts, as usual. Wow, scorching mid summer worst and you got to enjoy 70’s for highs in France. Most excellent. Did you get questions with odd looks from Europeans wondering “what the hell has gone wrong with America ?” Later, Mike & all.

Welcome home! Always good to get out of our country and get a reset from the point of view of Europeans. It is refreshing to say the least. It is an amazing place to look back in history. Compare and contrast is so eye opening for those who have a curious mind. Keep on trucking as Jerry Garcia sang about.

It seems teachers would not teach that, standards aside, because they know it is wrong. At least in urban schools, where my experience is. In my field, I would never teach ”intelligent design.” I would look at the new standard, laugh, and go about my business to of teaching evolution. Administrators in urban, multicultural districts will likely not enforce this, either.

A great read, as always! Your warnings about the DeSantis threat long after this upcoming national election cycle are spot on, in my opinion. A large part of my family lives in Florida and most of them are DeSantis worshipers; the heir apparent GOP cult leader that he is. Welcome home to the land of the delusional!

DeSatan is a rising star in the GOP. He will cause problems for a long time, and his wife is a female version of his miserableness. I hope Americans wake up and realize that peace and love will save our country, not hate and discrimination. Of course, the GOP have no proposals other than discrimination and tax cuts for billionaires.

they ill just double down on anti-trans attacks, anti-abortion and christian nationalism. it's the only energy in the base right now.

Thank you Keith---yes we cannot take our eyes off of DeSantis. it sounds to me though that people in Florida are waking up. He's even now losing the primary to Trump in Florida. Not that waking up = going to Trump. But his base of support in GOP there is collapsing, giving an opening to Dems.

Hi Mike and MS Fam, I was just eating breakfast and wondering if we would see a weekend thread and here it is! Yay! Mike, so glad you got a good break. Travel puts everything in perspective. I would also argue it makes us even more progressive, especially if we travel to “third world” countries. Many areas of the US itself fit this description. And one wonders how attacking human rights as your raison d’etre helps starving people who just need food and water and shelter. THOSE are human rights.

Anyway glad it was a good one. Yes in Europe one definitely sees the iron grip of the Catholic Church through the years, the 1%/them/government all in cahoots. Plunder. Last year walking through the British Museum I kept thinking they need to repatriate this stuff to the countries they were plundered from.

Today I read an article some of the donors in the GQP are trying to get Youngkin in the race. Love to see the GQP in such disarray. I still want us to have a more serious conversation on the show sometime about what would happen if Fake Bone Spurs was elected and in jail. Is this why candidates are vying to be his VP? I think this needs to be explored.

Haven’t seen Barbie yet. Hope the box office success of the two films will knock some sense into the studio moguls.

Suffering through a bit of pain (autoimmune disease) this week, largely due to increased heat coupled with increased humidity--and it’s only around 30%! For us that’s real high and sends the old creaky body into tailspin. Few more weeks and it should settle down. Don’t know how people live in the south! Anyway can’t wait for the show this week, did enjoy Joe when able to catch him. So happy you and hubby got a break and cleared the old fog. Hope Artie had fun with the sitter too. Cheers 😎

Chris, sorry to hear about the pain. Wow, no wonder you have to live in the desert. 30% is low--I can only imagine what it would be like here with the 97% we had in July. (this week is beautiful in New York btw.)

Yes, they are trying to get Youngkin in, but it's only going to work if GOP does well in VA elections coming up, and they're very nervous.

Hope you feel better soon, Chris! I also haven't seen Barbie yet, but DID see Oppenheimer....and it was terrific, awesome, and etc. Cillian, playing Oppenheimer, was such a close physical match when you look at old photos of Oppie. I worked in the U. Wash Physics Department for years, and we had 5 men from the Manhatten Project - one was my boss. He had been persecuted, too, by the committee after McCarthy's; I think the Cantwell Committee. His phone was tapped and he was followed for a couple of years. Los Alamos looks very different now from those years in the '40's....for one thing, it's surrounded by forest. They have a great museum at Los Alamos that showcases some of the letters that passed between Roosevelt, Einstein, Oppenheimer and others. And mockups of Little Boy and the other bomb. In the '70's and '80's, before wide use of computers, Physics Dept mail was delivered in open slots that you could look in - I never saw a Dept where so many people regularly received mail from the ACLU!

5 star movie - don't miss it!!

Thanks much! Have heard about NM, worth a stop sometime. My spouse grew up in Tri-Cities, WA. Lots of friends were downwinders. Major health issues. Have heard NM has a lot of downwinders too. Will have to see Oppenheimer.
