After Obergefell you warned us and you were so right. Now is not the time to fall into despair as they would want us to; we must organize, fight, relentlessly expose their hypocrisy and out them. You know there is always going to be someone out there who threatens our existence, while we keep thinking things are improving because we are allowed certain privileges, there are always evil forces out there saying "see, see what those horrible gays are doing"?? I don't know how drag queens became the enemy except that there was a lot of hype around drag queen story hour, which sounds cute, but some uneducated people found this disturbing. The transgender acceptance in schools and universities seems to have triggered these people and the misinformation that is being spread about gender affirming health care is really disturbing, when you have celebrities weighing in on this, who have a huge fanbase. I am not expert at transgender and I do not have children, but the world is different but I find that throwing a person's words right back at them is the best response. Yes, we are coming to take your children. What can they say about that?
Yes...again Michelangelo you lay out the strategy needed to counter these MAGA haters. I always love some of the clever posters that pop up at gay Pride celebrations. My favorite is one that goes along the line: "If God hates us why did he make us so cute?"
Three words we need to "take back" & "own" are patriot, woke and freedom. We need to hijack these words and use them as a counter attack against those haters.
Christian Nationalists have NO concept of irony, facetiousness or even of basic humour. They are so invested in magical thinking, the supernatural and demons they have become delusional. As a secular humanist I see their hate-filled rants on atheist social media sites. I simply don’t understand how christianity has been so “possessed” by maniacs who love hating more than anything else.
They don't *really* think kids are being "groomed" or they would personally attempt to have the individuals they are accusing of such arrested. Grooming is an actual crime, and they know it. They are trying to change language. People should start suing them for slander/defamation over the misuse of this "grooming" word.
I agree with everything you write Michael, but our national organizations like GLAAD and HRC should be hitting back on the stupidity of Foxnews for seriously reporting this as a "threat" to American families. Foxnews knows that this is a theatrical stunt, yet if you read the viewer comments, you will see things like, the LGBT community is "finally being honest about their intent" and gay and trans folks "are saying the quiet part out loud." These sentiments are often be accompanied by warnings that violence against gay and trans folks are justified by these admissions that "we are coming after children." Where are our national gay organizations exposing the hate filled campaign being waged against us by Foxnews, as well as other anti-LGBT right wing outlets?!!!
Mike, the first time I felt comfortable being myself was after reading Queer in America and Outing Yourself. I stepped out into our community to fight for our rights back then and will be damned if I let them demonize us and try to send us back to the closet now.
HRC, GLAAD, NCLR, etc need to step up and hit these monsters hard, stop speaking in whispers so as not to (God forbid) offend them. The same goes for the Democrats. Stop cow-towing to them, take a page out of their playbook and hit them. Hard. Expose them for what they are. Hate filled racist homophobes. Our lives and existence depend on it.
