Could it possibly be that Patrick, from the Successful Blue Donor State of Massachusetts, a state that has averaged a Return on it's Federal Tax Dollar of $.87 from 1981 thru 2020, is actually opposed to Nikki Haley's candidacy because he is aware that her Failed Ass Red Socialist Welfare State of South Carolina has averaged a Return on it's Federal Tax Dollar of $1.57 over the same period?

Maybe Patrick is aware that in 2019, his Successful Blue Donor State of Massachusetts, PAID $120 billion in Federal Taxes, but RECEIVED only $102 billion in Federal Spending, a GIVE AWAY of $18 billion to Red Socialist Welfare States. Or, that in 2021, his state PAID $1 44.3 billion, yet RECEIVED only $122.7 billion. A GIVE AWAY of $21.6 billion. Maybe THAT pisses him off.

Maybe Patrick is also aware that, in 2019, South Carolina PAID $27.9 billion in Federal Taxes, but RECEIVED $47.7 billion in Federal Spending. $19.8 billion in FREE MONEY. In 2021, it was $31.1 billion PAID, with $53 billion RECEIVED. $22.4 billion in FREE MONEY. May it's those numbers that piss him off.

Or, possibly it's the fact that South Carolina is one of 15 states that have ABSOLUTELY NO HISTORY WHATSOEVER of paying more Federal Taxes than the receive in Federal Spending. Maybe that's it.

Or, maybe it's the fact that his state taxes are 'high' because so much of his Successful Blue Donor State Federal Tax Dollars are given away each year to help Subsidize Low Tax Failed Ass Red Socialist Welfare States like South Carolina.

Maybe he's aware of all that shit and that's really why he thinks Nikki Haley should drop out. Of course, if he's aware of any of that stuff, he'd be really stupid to vote for any Republican, as the data indicates nothing but a history of Red Welfare State Economic Failure over at least the 40+ years of numbers I have. Maybe Patrick is aware that you can essentially take that failure back 159 years when Reconstruction was set up. What would have been different with the former slave holder states going back to 1865?

Even though his state Massachusetts is always one of the best educated state's in the U.S, Patrick may be aware of none of this.

There are so many Americans unable to understand what you mean, even as simply and logically as you’ve explained it. And if they do understand it, they either fail to acknowledge its impact or they want to deny it. Your message about “successful blue”, “donor red” needs to pervade the media, and we who understand and support it should be talking about it in our “small conversations” with others.

Thanks for keeping us aware and motivated Jan.👍🌞

Larry,

Precisely my point! Start talking about! It may make its way into the national conversation eventually. It certainly won’t make it by not talking about it. Repeat things over and over again, like the right does, and it’ll get there eventually.

I’m in California. I’ve called my own congresswoman, a perfectly fine progressive representative, and got nothing. I’ve called others in nearby districts who are more vocal on a national level, one who has received threats, and got nothing. It’s like it’s some sort of taboo subject. But why? We in the Successful Blue Donor States have been paying for failure, incompetence, stupidity, etc. for decades. If you’re from New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, and Connecticut, your parents paid for them, your grandparents and beyond. If it’ll get talked about, it’ll be us who get’s it started.

Thanks.

Jan, I suspect there are two reasons Democrats on the public stage don't want to start demonizing welfare states: 1) Doing so sends the larger message that welfare is bad or shameful. Republicans love that message, because it undermines the very idea of welfare. 2) Shaming welfare also shames the people who collect welfare. And I suspect our society has enough shame associated with welfare without Dems having to add to it.

Of course I also understand your frustration and desire to create a narrative that makes a point. But maybe there's a better way to construct this narrative without adding to the public animus against welfare. I'm guessing those are the main concerns public-facing Democrats have with this messaging.

Tom,

I see what you are saying to a certain point.

The Welfare States actually THINK they are successful. Witness Ron D stating that every state should be like Florida.! What a fuckin’ disaster that would be! And that’s just one state. What is it now, 14 states trying to impose abortion bans, with their stated goal of a national ban. Then you have voter suppression, gerrymandering, eliminating LGBTQ rights, banning books. On and on.

I’m going after this notion that high taxes and more regulations are bad, as those are actually the Successful States, while states with low taxes and few regulations seem to require massive subsidies year after year from those same Successful States. Irony being what is.

I’m also trying to attack the notion of White Supremacists and Christian Nationalists being the road to success. The data indicates the opposite. More like the road to Failure, Massive Subsidies, Socialism. Don’t call it Welfare, call it Socialism. It’s the massive redistribution of money that Republicans used to bitch about, even when they were the biggest recipients of the money. Irony being what it is.

Don’t call it Welfare, I’m okay with that. Socialism is a nice, accurate description of the situation. And they HATE that word! Irony being what it is.

Another way to approach it, state that the Red States are now ‘Successful’, as they claim to be the models for the nation, and tell them they no longer need the Subsidies from the Blue Donor states and the increased National Debt. Watch the rats scurry when that light comes on!

It’s not Welfare per se, call it something else. It’s Chronic Failure, masked by the illusion that they know the ‘right way’. 40 plus years of data indicate they don’t know shit. And likely never will. Last in Education, last in Health Care, last in Innovation, Creativity, Productivity. Last in just about everything except taking my state’s money.

Love it, Jan. Couldn't agree more.

I definitely get it-and ALL of us need to do what you’ve done about getting to our local reps (which I plan to do.) It’s not an easy task trying to explain to those who don’t have the capacity and/or patience to listen and understand but the more it’s repeated, as you said, people like MTG, who speak about “seceding”, will look like total wing nuts.

One of the amusing / stupid aspects of seceding, is that they can’t pay for themselves in the first place. Lost on them, of course, but it would fascinating to see reality in action, no?

Marjory T. Is actually a Socialist, as is Matt G., Ron, Mike J, Mitch, Lindsey, Josh H., Jim J., etc. As Michelangelo said the other day, these people are everything they hate.

The other aspect of seceding would be to remove the enormous financial burden of the Failed States, in essence improving the U.S. economy by virtue of subtraction. What a boon for us! My state could do a lot of shit with the $44 billion dollars we gave away in 2021. New York could do a lot of stuff with the $33 billion they had to part with in 2021. My state taxes had to make up for all that money we had to fork over.

Just think how much better the U.S. economy would be without the burden of these Failed Ass Red States.

Would they then beg the US for aid? Like the guy from a group on Texas secession who asked if he would still get his social security checks! No thinking beyond the current “squirrel.”

Well, well, well, tell US how YOU feel...I LOVED IT, I love your passion....

Ray,

Thanks. I’m tired of paying for the enemy. I’ve been doing it all my tax paying life. Red states are under the impression that they are ‘successful’. They are not. I think it’s time we started talking about how dependent they are on Blue Donor state money. And National Debt. They are an enormous financial burden. You know what businesses do when a division of the company isn’t performing? They shut it down or sell it off.

Now THIS would make an impactful missive! Laid out just as Jan did. I live in S.C. - what a mess, and forever ‘red.’ Graham, Mace, Scott.

Lynn,

Start talking about it. Ask questions, like ‘Why does my state need so much of other people’s money, like from certain Blue States, in order to simply have a ‘state’?

Ha! I'm probably really late to the party, so this phenomena has probably been discussed, but I find it fascinating that a MAGA person or any right-wing person would listen and/or call in to your show. I can't bring myself to watch Fox News or right-wing media. It's nails-on-a-blackboard to me. But these guys listen to your show (which I suppose is really cool that they do), but what are they hoping to prove or to get out of it by calling in? Do they think they're going to enlighten you and change your mind? Do they subconsciously want you to change THEIR minds? I don't know.

I almost didn't listen to this since I find those calls grating, but I did listen and it actually cracked me up. It hopefully also gave Patrick something to think about.

One of the more milder calls I say. He didn't make you blow your stack which is a good sign (?). Haley has proven to be a useful idiot at best. Her handlers need to steer her clear of anything racial because she can't seem to resist the rake in the yard that's ten feet away. Her Breakfast Club appearance was an example of tone deafness at it's worse. The donations she's receiving is quickly going up in smoke with her inability to avoid issues she clearly hasn't mastered.

Plzzz Haley. Stay in forever

I was listening to this call and you were right, there is nothing hypocritical of supporting Haley over Trump, both are equally awful, and both would be beaten by Biden. the GOP is never going to elect a woman of color to the Oval Office, plus she is a woman. She most likely would sway independents, but if Trump isn't on the ticket, his supporters will not vote. I do wish the third party candidates go jump in lake and just go away, but we live in a democracy where they have their right to run. I did give this some thought though, while I really hope Joe Biden is victorious in November and I think he will be, if Haley does run and win, I wouldn't be happy about it, but at least I wouldn't feel afraid because she is not crazy like Trump. But, if Trump somehow slips his way in, I would be very nervous and scared.

It would be fascinating, but the division among us delights our enemies (that’s the reason they ARE who they “say” they hate.) But constantly repeating the welfare/donor state facts might wake a few of those in the red states that they should think twice about what they wish for.

Wondering if they are worried the suburban woman vote will either go to Haley or Biden instead of Trump?
