I live in AZ. My sister is an NP who normally works in Urgent Care. They are swamped with patients w/Co-19. She has been called into the hospital to help assess patients because Drs.are swamped as well. It is a scary time here. I worry about her, not only being in contact with so many sick people, but the extra hours she is putting in. These medical professionals are working their asses off while idiot Trump golfs and talks a bunch of babbling lies to his cult members.

Shame on Mary Hart.

I watched Hamilton. So timely to be released RIGHT now. I was glued -it made me laugh and cry. then I had to fact check some stuff lol. I feel very strange this 4th of July. for the first time, I do not see any reason to celebrate "independence day". I have learned much this year about real inequities that so many suffer and have suffered. I will continue to learn and absorb. i will be at my home this weekend to avoid confrontation with the " I'm not wearing a mask-I'm not afraid. tourists"

on a different note: I enjoyed Michelangelo sharing the story of his first meal out in months, with his husband David, at a restaurant seated in the middle of the street...now that is city livin' (insert a GIANT smile here!)

I'm in the final month after months of packing to move across the country, from Madison, Wisconsin to Arizona. Why, many might ask, would I do something so crazy as to leave my safe place of 33 years to go to a state where people think COVID is a Democrat plot and Dr. Fauci works for Joe Biden and where I'm at a huge medical risk?

Well, because about 30 years ago I did a backpacking trip through Arches and when I first saw that landscape I cried and all I could say was "I'm home" even though I came from the Midwest. And every day since then I have been dreaming of still desert air and red rocks and canyons. But work and family and fear of change held me back until last summer when I got a cancer diagnosis (undetectable since treatment last Nov., thank god, but still).

We never know how much time we have but especially now we need to have dreams and follow them, and hold on to loved ones as we go. So I'm packing and changing addresses and making reservations for a cross country drive in the beginning of August, and when I get there I'll breathe that pure desert air and see where I can sink my teeth into some pocket of progressive values.

Thank you Michelangelo for this forum, for your courage, and for everything you do. No matter where I am I will keep listening.

This is anecdotal, but my daughter-in-law is seeing positive tests climb at her LI urgent care after weeks of no positives. It confirms my belief that this is far from over, even in well-managed states. The virus is highly contagious and, as people begin to hold parties and socialize more, the numbers are going up. I'm not optimistic about NY fully opening for months.

That's why it repulses me to see that pos stand up and say we have to live with this. He's given up on 329 million of us, washing his hands and walking away. I hope Guilfoyle sneezed all over him. He deserves to be on the receiving end of "It's not my responsibility".

Joe Biden's ad was incredibly moving and even soothing, coming as it did after last night's racist fascist fest. He'll be a good president. He may not be everyone's first choice, but he has a heart and the experience to put the best qualified in gov't posts, and to bring in experts. Thank you for posting his video. Have a great 4th, and stay safe.

Yes, Michelangelo, a strange July 4th indeed. I live in north coastal San Diego and am happy to not witness any huge displays - not exactly in a celebratory mood - but as I type, I’m hearing the odd firecracker and a boom here and there. I’m a RN in the ER at a busy local community hospital and positive Covid cases are really on the rise. Our ICU is full as is the Covid side of our Emergency Department. Tons of people wear masks in public and tons do not. My emotions seem to fluctuate from sadness to outrage a lot, and it’s quite draining. I’ll just keep living by example and hope the rest of these entitled selfish people will turn off Fox News and dive into some independent journalism, or better yet subscribe to SiriusXm and listen to your show, Michelangelo, for the truth and hopefully some IQ points!!

PS at this EXACT moment I'm trying not to lose my shit over neighborhood fireworks which scare my dog and everyone's dog and all the wild creatures. The whole street smells like gunpowder.

We can't and shouldn't wish ill on anyone. Don't deny them the humanity they deny others. Just hope they live long enough to see how wrong they are.

But having said said that our country is a dumpster fire, there is a crafty fly in my house I can't seem to catch, and masks are some sort of faux-freedom test. But I just bought new sheets from brooklinen so there's that.

Working this 4th for the well off. A sort of high end frontline worker for the 1%. Although I am thankful for the work and I like my clients very much I experience the wealthy version of self delusion. With money to burn w hordes (literally) of cleaning & food supplies and an over the top “appearance” of precaution taken w all strangers w mask in the house et ... however the revolving door of nannies, house keepers, a masseuse! and larger and larger “Pod” Pool of dinner guest invites with no way to control really who they are in contact with. I feel it’s all a smoke screen and a corona tinder box waiting for a lit match. People (rich or otherwise) are physiologically exhausted or bored and finding ways to cheat or excuse their choices.

I hope I’m wrong but I fear our east coast reprieve is only temporary.

Being 67, basically a hypochondriac, and living in the covid-heavy state of AZ, I'm spending time at home with my pittie Lexi, and working in my wood shop. Vodka use is on the rise, but not before using the power tools!

I spent my July 4th working in my yard in rural Connecticut. I venture out as little as possible. I’m in a long-distance marriage with my husband who is a funeral director in Sarasota, FL. He tells me it’s a shit show down there plus it’s getting busier with an influx of Covid-19 cases, along with the regular caseload of old folks. There’s little social distancing and mask-wearing at visitations (we call them wakes up here) and services. I worry about him even though he tells me he takes all safety precautions.

Just spent the day with my husband fishing on a small lake near Brighton, Michigan. We are moving to AZ on the 18th of this month. I will be supporting Mark Kelley all the way. I worry about going to AZ because of the surge in COVID. I hope all of our democratic friends stay safe and wear your masks and social distance. We are the ones that are going to save this country.

President in waiting gave a speech that was simply....Presidential. This failed president gave an erratic, divisive ,hateful political rave on Indian land and with no concern for the health of his misguided supporters. .Added to this pathetic 4th July “event” is the fact, that, We, the tax payer ,financed this sad affair .

A couple of us are trying to spread the word about the upcoming election-corny and boring right?

 REGISTER [and then check your voter status].

 Check your VOTER STATUS often [Are you still active on the voting rolls?]

 Requesting a “VOTE BY MAIL” ballot [if that works for you]

 Vote DOWN BALLOT [how many House bills are dying in the Senate]

 Facing voting difficulties-GET HELP-check out a helpline and don’t give up

 KNOW YOUR LOCAL governmental organization that handles voting [like County Supervisor of Elections] and put a short cut on your phone so you can check your status and help other local voters.

ELECTION PROTECTION, as a national coalition with a centralized database, helpline and links to other partners that help voters is one resource dedicated to providing the “equal opportunity to vote.” Disclaimer: We don't work for Election Protection. Just think they are one of many good resources.

We, also, forwarded the “Wake Up” You Tube link from 2004 by Brandy, Mary J. Blige, Missy Elliott, Wyclef Jean, Jamie Foxx, Jon Batiste and others:

I've been doing the social distancing since before it was the thing to do (aversion to crowds), so this 4th wasn't a whole lot different than the past several. I stayed home and watched movies.

That said, I haven't seen any of my family since March. I work at the airport in Las Vegas in a job that I've been told is "essential," but the quotes around that indicate that I feel different (If I told you what I do and my company happened upon this, I might not have a job anymore but you would also agree that it isn't essential). Because of this, I have opted to protect my family which includes everything from a toddler on up to my senior parents. It has been the responsible thing to do and with Nevada being on a spike that shouldn't have happened if people were being responsible, I don't see it ending soon.

When the governor put back in place the mandatory wearing of masks, most people took it seriously. I drive from where I live (Boulder City) to Henderson (which is between my place and Vegas) and, at the stores in Henderson, everyone has been acting in a responsible way. Back at the stores in Boulder City, not so much.

One glaring example of people flagrantly disregarding the requirement of wearing masks has been the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department personnel working in the airport. I think I've seen one so far that had a mask on. The rest walk around that Petri dish of an airport like nothing is going on. I have no doubt that the politics of cops has a great deal to do with this, but it's still extremely galling to see. By the way, I enjoy kicking people out of my office for lack of mask wearing and I'll do it to a cop too, if they don't have true police business in there.

So, my 4th, in all of its basic elements was pretty much the same, but I was in a much darker mood than I have been on others.
